The Hostelz.com Review
HI-Hyannis is the perfect hostel for a relaxing getaway on beautiful Cape Cod. The hostel has a great atmosphere and staff, with large spacious rooms and plenty of common facilities. Keep in mind that this is an HI Hostel, so there is a no-alcohol policy.
The Location
The hostel is very easy to find -- located only five minutes' walk from Main Street and about ten minutes' walk from the Hyannis Bus Terminal. The ferries for Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are located across the road at the pier. There are also beaches within twenty minutes' walk from the hostel -- or you can hire bicycles from the hostel. There is a Trader Joe's about a mile away and plenty of restaurants and pubs on Main Street. If you have a car, there is plenty of parking, too.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms and bathrooms are very large compared to other hostels and exceptionally clean. There are lockers in the room and each one of the buildings is secured by a code so there is no need for room keys. The dorms range from private rooms to four-person dorms. There is a bathroom on each floor of each building -- they are well equipped with hairdryers, plenty of hooks/shelves, and a nice warm shower.
Common Spaces
There are a variety of common spaces at the hostel with three outdoor settings -- one with a camp fire. Inside the main house, there is a large kitchen with a large variety of pots, pans, and utensils with a large oven and cooktop. Whilst we were there, a lady made apple and rhubarb pies -- so you can definitely cook up anything you like in there! Inside the main house there is also a large lounge room (with free tea and coffee all day and books), a front room with seating, and the reception. The hostel is not a party hostel by any means, but is filled with a variety of lovely people who all have great stories to share, giving the place a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Summary
Your stay also comes with breakfast, which is amazing and includes good quality toast, condiments, oats (porridge), granola, and yogurt. The staff are very friendly and helpful with a lot of knowledge about the Cape and how to get around. All in all we would thoroughly recommend this hostel.
