Hostelz.com's Review
Hostel Pachamama is in the prime location in San Juan Del Sur and is one of the most popular party hostels.

The Location

Pachamama is located quite centrally in San Juan del Sur and is close to the main beach and the main strip with all of the bars to party in of a nighttime. It is also only a short distance from the main street, where you can find all of the restaurants, food, and other amenities that you might need during your stay here. You can get a shuttle to the other beaches in San Juan Del Sur from the downtown region and it is close to where they run the buses to the Costa Rican border.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are different types of rooms here at Pachamama. You will find a larger dorm, which costs less, or smaller, four-person dorms that are equipped with air conditioning and private bathrooms. The rooms can be a little crammed, as they are small, but the beds and linen are good quality and the bathrooms are well maintained and modern. The cleaners do a great job of keeping everything in top order.

Common Spaces

The whole reception area in Pachamama is the social hub. It contains a bar in one corner, which can at times get pretty crazy and out of control. There is also a pool, plenty of tables and chairs for sitting down and socializing, couches in a chill-out area, and a computer for communal use of the internet if you do not have a device to get Wi-Fi. Each day of the week there is a different social activity going on in the hostel and these are written up on the chalkboard in the front of the reception area. They also run shuttles to different beaches some days -- this is great to take advantage of, too.

Summary

This hostel hosts the famous "Sunday Funday" Pool crawl around San Juan, which is one of the most popular events in town. The staff are friendly and helpful and get among all of the action going on here. If you are after an amazing social environment and a hell of a party, this is your hostel -- especially on weekends!

1   PachaMama -- It's a New Location. I stayed at the old location a while back and found it to be suitable, but the new location is a joke. hard to find, no kitchen, no water, small rooms, and they focus too much on a restaurant and bar that is pricy. The room rates also went up. Bottom line, do not waste your time! Stay somewhere else! I asked one of the workers about surfing and sea turtles and they knew nothing about either. In fact one guy said he hadn't even been to the beach yet. I highly recommend staying at a different hostel!  , Netherlands ()
5   Great experience! Yes the bathrooms are not as clean as you can expect since there is room for 40 people and i count 5 bathrooms. But this place is great, such a good vibe from the owners and the other guest. Try the sailing boat tour, amazing experience.  , Canada ()
4   Rad the power in san juan goes out as does the water, so it not a pancho problem. the hostel has 7 bathrooms, not 2, and the owners are super chill. great place.  , usa ()
1   Bad management I've been there for a week and it wasn't as great as it sounds in the description. The manager seemed to be more interested in making money than taking care of his guests, as a result the hostel was overcrowded (more guests than beds!!) 2 showers for about 40 people, bathrooms dirty as sh*t, constantly out of water, we had to stay 2 days without running water so no shower or possibility to flush the toilets (imagine with 2 toilets for 40 people!!). There is a good wifi but no computer and forget about free coffee and breakfast, it doesn't exist.  , Australia ()
