Ghazal Hotel is pretty much in the central area of Damascus and fairly easy to find.
The Location
The hostel is located off a small side road (Souq Saroja) from Thawra Street. It's pretty easy to get there, but the map from the website would be very handy. The place has a good location, as Thawra road is a well-known busy road with lots of buses and taxis, while Souq Saroja is quiet and calm, away from the chaos and noise of the city. Souq Saroja seems quite safe, as does the city in general, and the area has plenty of small shops and places to eat.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are number of mixed dorms with around half a dozen single beds in each -- all quite nice, clean and fairly spacious. If the place is particularly busy there may be mattresses available to sleep on on the roof area. No AC, and not many fans, but the rooms are large and spacious and remain quite cool during the day. Not every room has lockers but the place is pretty small and relaxed and security doesn't seem to be a problem. There are plenty of bathrooms to go around, of average size, but all are kept clean and in good working order.
Common Spaces
The hostel boasts a very nice, large, and cool (temperature wise) communal area with a small water fountain in the centre surrounded by a number of tables and chairs. This is also the breakfast area, which the hostel provides either for free or at a price depending on your bargaining skills. There is no TV and no internet but there is a small book exchange/library near reception. The staff/owners are also quite approachable and helpful, and can give honest and accurate information for food, sights, transport.

Overall this is a nice, clean, relaxed place, in a very good location with a friendly, social kind of vibe.
