Hostelz.com's Review
Hostal Cocosbeach is a no-frills, clean, reasonably priced choice amongst the many places to stay on the beachfront in Huanchaco.

The Location

Huanchaco is a small and walkable town, so even though Hostal Cocosbeach is located at the far end of the beach, it won’t take you more than about ten minutes to walk to the centre. There are surf schools, restaurants, and bars all very close to the hostel. Surfing spots and the fisherman on their unique wicker boats known as caballitos are just a couple of minutes away. Buses from Trujillo drive along the main beach road but turn off before they get as far down as Cocosbeach, so make sure you get off before they drive up the hill. The same buses also pass by Chan Chan, the famous Chimu ruins, en route to Trujillo.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are either four-bed dorms or double rooms and are clean, bright, and airy. Some of the rooms have sea views or partial sea views and you are close enough to the ocean to fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing at night. The accommodation is pleasant, comfortable, and rooms come with a TV (with cable) and free Wi-Fi access. Bathrooms are functional, clean, and have hot water twenty-four hours a day.

Common Spaces

There is a roof terrace area with tables and chairs overlooking the beach and a bar/restaurant downstairs, though it was very quiet during our visit.

Summary

There’s not much to get excited about with Hostal Cocosbeach, and it definitely has more of a guesthouse feel than a hostel, however it is perfectly functional and comfortable and the beach is almost at your front door, so it’s not a bad choice of place to stay for the budget traveler.
Our one minor criticism is that the reception is supposed to be open twenty-four hours, yet when we arrived back at midnight one Saturday night, the whole place was locked up and the lights out, so we had to bang on the door for a long time before a bleary-eyed chap let us back in. It would make sense to give guests a key to the only door in the building if they are going to close without warning.
