STF/HI Youth Hostel Visby is perfect for those wanting a trip down memory lane as the hostel uses a primary school during the empty summer months. In itself, there is nothing particularly attractive about the place, though the rooms and kitchen are spacious and generally pretty clean. The showers are not so pleasant, but do the job. Disabled access and facilities are also very good throughout the building (except perhaps the front steps on the way in).
Bearing in mind that Visby is hideously expensive, with drinks starting at 45 krone and other run-of-the-mill accommodation asking North of 500 krone, this hostel is essential in your stay here. In fact, its novelty in price compared with the rest of the town means that you will be sharing with an eclectic range of folk, from 17 year old Swedes out for fun, to 60 year olds there for the culture and the Medieval Markets. Another bonus is that the place is not crawling with foreigners, and so you actually feel immersed in Sweden from your waking moment.
One thing to bear in mind is that the hostel is a 15 minute walk from town, 20 minutes from the seashore and some of the streets are at a fairly steep incline. But it's a good choice if you don't mind the stroll.
