Rome is an expensive place and accommodation is no exception -- and so you might end up staying at a place like the Freestyle Hostel.
Freestyle is a seven-minute walk from the Termini train station in a street that is not very inviting after dark. Although the area around Termini is not too salubrious at the best of times, the street that the hostel is in seems even dodgier than most.
The hostel is very crowded with beds crammed into small rooms and only a tiny common room where people congregate. In this room there is one computer with free internet access but it is not available after 11 p.m. The bedrooms are quite dark and also are insufferably hot. No lockers are provided for belongings, which adds to the generally chaotic atmosphere. There are only two combined shower/toilets for about thirty-five people, which means there is often a queue. There is no hot water whatsoever for showers. A kitchen is available for use by guests, and the hostel price does include breakfast and a pasta dinner.
Freestyle is the kind of place that, if you are stuck, is bearable for one or two nights, but if you are planning ahead try to book somewhere else for your stay in Rome.
