4  Great central location, good nights sleep We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Mamallena. Being senior travelers returning to Boquete we chose this hostel for its central location and friendly staff, and settled into a double, ensuite room. Having previously stopped by to check their tour availability, we knew we would be treated well by a quality staff. We enjoyed the well-stocked, shared kitchen during the pancake and coffee breakfast provided by the hostel. Midway between 2 grocery stores (about a 1 block walk), some of the guests really cooked up incredible meals, all the while swapping travel tips and tales. The internet connection and inexpensive laundry facilities were reliable and crucial for our stay. They post a listing of upcoming tours to nearby sites as well as longer transportation to Bocas and the Pacific beaches, with reasonable rates. The facility is old, but cleaned daily, so we found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs. When maintenance issues arose, they were handled efficiently. There is a current restaurant/bar next door (noise was NOT a problem!). When we left in March 2012, there was talk of acquiring an adjacent restaurant facility to expand Mamallena's services. We talked to quite a few other folks who had at checked in for a one night stay and like us, extended their time in this friendly hostel.  , USA ()
5  Central, friendly, and very well equipped My first and almost last stop on my Panamanian tour. I came here for a few days and after a week I finally left for volunteer work nearby. The social life here is open and friendly and I returned even after my stay as I had made so many friends here. The kitchen is very well equipped and allows the budget traveler to eat well and there is a 24 hour supermarket near also. The sitting room is spacious enough for eating meals and watching TV with an extensive DVD library. The patio area is great for snoozing in a hammock, listening to music, or enjoying drinks and chats. Best of all are the mattresses in dorms, all new and really thick and comfortable! The staff have a lot of information about the surrounding area and encourages volunteer in Paradise Gardens with a discount on dorm beds. The atmosphere is laid back and helpful.  , Ireland ()
