STF/HI Youth Hostel Baskemolla has a really cosy feel. It has only fifty-eight beds, and each dorm room has only a few bunks. The surroundings are very pretty and it is close to the beach (a few hundred meters). It is nice and clean and has good facilities. There is a sink and table/chairs in the dorm rooms which is always handy as well as space to hang clothes and a small locker. The kitchen is large and well equipped, and there is also washing and drying facilities. The showers lack privacy, but there is no timer! Breakfast is a little expensive (fifty sek), so we decided to make our own. The nearest supermarket is in Simrishamn (about five kilometers away) so if you don't want to buy breakfast, come prepared. There is a small cafe in town that sells milk and bread, but not too much else.
To get to the hostel, take Skane Expressen regional bus three to Kristianstad from Simrishamn train station. Get off at Mexicovagen in Baskemolla. It's about a five hundred metre walk from there. There are signs from the bus stop so it is easy to find.
There are some communal areas (dining room, tv room), but people tend to keep to themselves. The atmosphere is very quiet and relaxed, although in the busy summer season, it will get busier. The office hours are quite short (nine a.m. to 10 a.m. and five p.m. to seven p.m.), so consider calling in advance. The owners are very accommodating and helpful if you are arriving outside the opening hours.
Overall, the hostel is nice and clean, but very quiet. This however can be expected given the small size of the town.
