The Hostelz.com Review
This is a small but cozy backpackers set in the even smaller village of Storms River in the Tsitsikama National Park. There's a very warm and friendly atmosphere and you're invited from the first moment to be at home and to put your feet on the coffee table.

The hostel consists of three dorms (5/6 people each) and a double room (plenty of space for tents outside). There is a shared kitchen and common room with TV and videos. Unfortunately there are only two bathrooms and the hot water tank does not always suffice for everybody. So unless you're one of those who wakes up veeery early or veeery late in the morning, prepare yourself to get in line for the toilet and to have a "not-so-warm" shower. This could change in the next future because they're growing bigger and building a new bar with pool and minisoccer too next to the braii area. If you happen to pass by on a full moon night there's a chance Steven, Marius, and Charlie (owners and managers) will take you to a drumming session in the middle of the night at the base of the Big Tree in Tsitsikama. ~

Adventurous!
It was an awesome place! Felt close to the nature. I love the tent in that small woods! The dorm was the biggest and most people. The food tasted a bit weird, though but good culinary experience! I was lucky to meet Marius and Brigitta randomly at J'bay! Unforgettable night at Tube N'Axe!

Tube N' Axe is a brilliant place to stay — the people are incredibly friendly, and the place just has such a great vibe about it. The only downside is the lack of bathrooms. There are also no laundry facilities available to guests. You must have a bungee jump shooter there — fantastic! You'll definitely enjoy your time there, I think it'd be impossible not to.

Superb place. Yes, the bar is a little loud but not excessive. There's a great mural on the wall. It has fantastic and friendly staff, who instantly remember everyone's name. There is a lot to do in the area even if the weather is bad.

Tube n'Axe was definitely one of the highlights of South Africa. :o) (Alongside Isle Vibe, another amazing place). Maurius, Scott, Loui and Brigette made our stay unforgettable and even got our passports to Cape Town after we left them behind from partying so much on our last night. Thanks, guys. I would love to get back at some stage. This is one of the Top Hostels in the World!!

Hey you all there in the bush, this is one of the coolest hostels in the whole wide world. Steve, Elsie says ahoy bro. The service is the best. The food is the juiciest, and the vibe is the sweetest. Thanks a lot for a cool stay, lads. I will be back at the end of 2005 to stay for all eternity.

There are no words to describe this hostel. "Perfect" is, I think the closest word you can use about the Tube 'n Axe. All the staff people were really friendly and they made me have an amazing time in Storm's River. Thank you to all my friends, sincerely "The Chilean guy" (Joaquin) jvicuna@gmail.com

I visited the Tube n' Axe in September 2004. Tube n' Axe is a fantastic place to stay. I would jump at the chance to go back. Steve, Marius, Scott and Louie were excellent blokes, and I had an unforgettable stay. Without doubt it's the best backpackers in South Africa.

I LOVED this place, with a couple of exceptions. It is rather dirty — sorry guys — AND the bar can be too loud late at night. And you really need a dedicated toilet instead of everybody using the one in the main dorm (fourteen beds — the biggest dorm I saw in South Africa). It can be really noisy — remember everybody likes to have fun — but you can't be a party animal every night! Other than those wee things, you really have one of the best places I've ever stayed at!

Oh my God, where do I start? A trip to South Africa is not complete without a visit to Tube N' Axe and Storms River. As soon as I set foot off the Baz Bus I felt totally at home. It's a stunning setting. Those beautiful Tsitsikamma Mountains and the hammock swing, the sunset and the chilled-out vibe combine to kick the ass out of that other hostel down the road! And when they say "personalized attention" these boys mean it. Thanks for a rocking night, Steve. It was a shame my bastard arm was in a sling.

We had the best party at Tube 'n Axe. The evening entertainment was excellent around the fire. The food was excellent and the company and staff were very hospitable! We are all looking forward to returning!!!

If you are the boring type and like to go to bed at 8 p.m. then stay at home. This is the best time you will have away from home. Great guides, great food and good times to have by all. If you want a place to stay, you've got go there.

We spent New Year's Day here, and it was fantastic. Hallo Steve, this is Heidi and Anna, the girls from Denmark. We miss the good company and the sand fight on the beach.
