Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

I recently spent two nights at Casa Iguana, which has two bungalows for parties of two or more and one tent for one. The Casa is on the outskirts of town — a 5-minute hike up the hill. So it's a low-cost place to stay. It's also quite pleasant. Brad is from California and his wife, Veronica, grew up in Yelapa. They have four kids ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old, and they cordially welcome guests to make themselves at home in their open-air household and kitchen. (The toilet and shower are also open-air but private.) There are some fine restaurants nearby, which Brad can identify for you. Yelapa is a picturesque and traditional small Mexican town — lots of kids, dogs, roosters, and horses. It's had electricity for only three years. There is no bank, and credit cards aren't much use there. So bring cash. The beaches are scenic and the ocean unpolluted (unlike expensive Puerto Vallarta). So all in all, I rate Yelapa and Casa Iguana as a fun, convenient (to PV); interesting and relaxing place to spend a few days or more. — John Benson (2005-03-26)
