This small, quiet hostel is tucked away along a side street, but is only two blocks from the bus stop and tourist center (and clearly marked by "Hostel" signs). There are signs posted inside that tell you where in town to go for nightly 'trad' sessions, and the sweet proprietor is a great resource on local happenings. Daverns is free on Monday and Wednesday nights after 9ish. Bru Boru runs Tuesday through Saturday, but is 15 euro for the show.
There's a comfortable common room with a TV and piano. There's a phone, but no internet (the library is close, and is 3 euro/hour). The dorm rooms are named after Irish books (I was in the 'James Joyce Ulysses' room). The beds are short, so tall guys should ask for the 'Big Fellows Room' (I don't think that was an Irish book... and I don't know if similar options exist for tall gals).
Check out is at 10am. Dorm rooms are
not locked (and there are no lockers). If you're going to be out past 10pm, they'll give you a key to get back in (but keys are limited, so try to go out with a buddy or three). Two tiny and fairly clean bathrooms on each floor, and one shower - but you should be able to find a free one on a different floor if you need to. There are fun round tables in the dining room. And in the clean kitchen there are several fridges with glass doors, so you can see where you put things.
If you're in Cashel, you're there to see The Rock - which is a very short hop across Main Street and through the Cashel Palace's (hotel) Bishop's Walk. Don't forget to go down the hill to the old Abbey ruins (they're free, and very well preserved!).
