Sam's VIP Hostel San Gil Reviews from the Web
Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
5  May be the best hostel I have experienced in 14 years of travel Sam's is the best. The building itself is beautiful with new, clean and attractive decor; very nice tile on the floors and in the bathrooms and kitchens. Great views, a nice little pool, and very clean and modern kitchens (yes, plural). Sam himself was very helpful to me when I arrived late at night, and his staff have been a treat. Very good security and ease of organizing activities.  , Canada ()
5  Like staying in a brand new apartment Boom! Sam's is awesome. It's modern, clean and has great facilities. It felt more like we were staying in a large apartment then a hostal as such. The girls on reception are great fun and always laughing and having a good time. It's in a prime location right on the town square and they'll organise any trips you want. I doubt you'll find many better hostals then this, we certainly haven't.  , Australia ()
5  Feeling like the king of the Plaza Principal The real drawback of this hostel is his balcony looking over the park. It is a fantastic place for a beer, looking at people. Normally only possible for at least 6 times the money. And we also did (free!) salsa lessons on the balcony so the people at the park could look at us and our beautiful teacher. Inside everything is very well organized, all the furniture is new, and the kitchen is great. Especially considering that cooking with three at the same time is no problem! There is also a very nice swimming pool in the back of the hostel, but is was a little cold when I was there. But the beds are warm and comfortable. The girl that taught the salsa class also took us to a very busy local place we had never found ourselves to practice our salsa skills.  , Holland ()
5  5 Stars, or more! This is a Penthouse Apartment! On one side, A rooftop terrace with small swimming pool facing green hills. On the other, A large large balcony overlooking the main square. Inside, An executive quality kitchen with marble countertops, Flat screen TVs, A well stocked bar to wet your whistle, And clean, clean, clean! Come here when you've tired of the smell of backpacking and want to feel welcomed into a home -- an amazingly nice home! Come here when you want to be treated with respect. Come here when you want to be trusted. Come here when you want to relax. Or be busy with activities! My prediction is You will stay longer than you plan!!! San Gil is that kind of place -- drawing you into its relaxed feel while occupying you with endless outdoor activities pursue!  ()
5  Has everything going for it! Sam's is ultra clean, lovely facilities, and perfect location on the main park plaza. Sam and his staff are lovely, helpful, and friendly all speak English so no need to worry about your dodgy Spanish. They can tell you all about the local things to do and see, and organise trips if you want them. To top all this, the dorms are really good value and have comfortable beds. What's not to like? an excellent hostel.  , British ()
5  One of the best hostels in South America I have stayed in hostels in Aisa, USA, Australia, and all over Europe and this is one of the most comfortable, clean, and welcoming hostels I have stayed in. Sam is a great guy, he speaks English perfectly and will help you with everything you need. Nice music, a nice swimming pool, terrace overlooking the main square in San Gil. perfect temperature all year round. I couldnt ask for more.  , England ()
5  Home away from home Sam's VIP is one of the nicest, most familiar hostels I have ever stayed in. Sam is incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and eager to help you in any and every regard. His place is clean, modern, and styled like a beautiful penthouse home. The views from the front and back terraces are impossible to beat. And at 15,000 pesos per night the price is excellent. Also, shots of rum are only 1500 pesos -- amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Thank you, Sam!  , USA ()
5  Fancy yet cheap prices! This place is seriously amazing! Sam welcomes you as if you were not a guest, but a long lost friend! The staff working there are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and give you a warm colombian welcome. And the hostel itself is probably the fanciest yet cheapest hostel you will find in Colombia; I mean, where else will you get a rooftop pool looking over the mountains and a huge balcony looking over the park where you can enjoy a drink of arguadiente?  ()
5  The best in san gil After many crappy hostels, sam's is very welcoming and relaxing. it opened recently and it's very clean and well organised! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. It has a pool, amazing kitchen, and a great terrace. sam's the best place in san gil!  , belgian ()
5  Great hostel, great atmosphere, and top location Definitely recommend this place. It's right on the square and probably has the best quality rooms you'll get in Colombia for the price. Great advice about things to do in the area too. Go rafting!!  , English ()
5  A Great Hostel in a Great City! We had such a great time at Sam's, we ended up extending our stay in San Gil. The hostel is immaculate, free internet, pool, bar, gorgeous rooftop, amazing kitchen, perfect location. Sam and his brother were so helpful and accommodating to us. We can't wait to come back -- although next time I'm sure we'll need a reservation!  , USA ()
5  Great hostel! We've been traveling for two months in Colombia and Sam's is by far the best hostel we've been -- it's clean (very new), has a big living room and terrace, swimming pool, great showers and baths, big screen tv, gin and tonics, nice music, and a great kitchen. By the way, Sam and his brother are really nice guys who happen to speak English fluently as well.  , The Netherlands ()
