Monkee-Inn

The Monkee-Inn is an excellent place to stay. It is clean, cheap, and affordable. The staff are friendly and the owners, Stan and Sandy Ellis, are always around with helpful tips on safety and directions. This hostel is great if you want to stay for a long period of time or if you are here for just one night. The hostel itself has only been in business since May 2009 and you can really tell that it is brand new and well looked-after. There is twenty-four-hour security and there is no curfew so guests can come and go as they please without having to worry about safety. With no advertising, Monkee-Inn relies exclusively on word-of-mouth referrals, so the owners strive to provide the guest with only the best and cleanest value for the money.

The Location

Located in KL's bustling China Town, Monkee-Inn is easy to find. China Town is located one stop away from KL's Sentral Station, KL's main transit hub by LRT. This same LRT station can then used to travel extensively around KL. Monkee-Inn is also walking distance from the world famous Petronas Towers, Little India, and the Golden Triangle. Monkee-Inn is close to many restaurants and shops as well as one block away from China Town's open air market. The neighborhood is busy and enjoyable with many sites to see and places to go throughout the day and well into the night.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Monkee-Inn has fourteen types of rooms to choose from, with a variety of prices to suit all budgets. There are cheaper places in China Town but you will not find rooms this clean. From the Super Single Suite with Air to the dorms, there are many options. The bathrooms are cleaned daily (as are the rooms) and there is an adequate amount of showers due to the fact that some of the rooms available have their own en-suites. The showers have both hot and cold water available and are powerful. They are small but provide enough space to shower comfortably. The doors all lock except for the dorm because the dorm is located behind the reception desk, which is occupied twenty-four/seven by staff. There are no in-room lockers but there are free small lockers available, which are only accessible by the guest.

Common Spaces

With a clean and comfortable TV/ internet room, Monkee-Inn provides a great opportunity to meet people, exchange a book or two in the free book exchange, and enjoy a number of free DVDs provided at reception. There is also a rooftop patio, which is an excellent place to enjoy the sun during the day and have a few drinks with friends during the evening.

If you are interested in something a little more lively, the bar downstairs opens at 3 and is a great spot to kick back, have a beer, and listen to some music. The beer prices are roughly the same as the most of the places in the area. The bar provides food as well, but it is a little pricey for China Town. The option to sit outside is also available as this is a great place to sit and watch the interesting sights of China Town pass by. Monkee-Inn is nonsmoking but has balconies on every floor for smokers. Monkee-Inn provides the option of having a quiet night in or a big night out, depending on what the guest is looking for.

Monkee-Inn provides and clean, safe, and friendly atmosphere. There are free lockers, free luggage storage, free Wi-Fi, free continental breakfast, and free internet. Monkee-Inn also provides a twenty-four-hour laundry service for a small charge and the cleaners change the sheets in the dorms every three days free of charge. Overall, Monkee-Inn is clean, great value for the money and with a great atmosphere, this is easily the best hostel we have stayed in so far while traveling Asia.
