The Hostelz.com Review
Wow Hostels is a new addition to the scene in Singapore and has some good deals for dorm rooms, which are good value for what you get in Singapore -- including a free basic breakfast and internet.

The Location

It's ideally located right next to an MRT station, which goes straight into Singapore City and Airport. It's not too difficult to find a few hostels around the area, which we think they own. You can catch buses and taxis at the end of the road -- you can also walk to the city but will take an hour to walk to Bugis and you will get very hot, but with the MRT being right next door, it's perfect.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Inside the hostel there are four- to eight-bed dorms as well as a few double/twins. The beds are pretty new, bought from Ikea, with two pillows and a duvet cover as well. Everyone gets a locker with key to put your stuff inside -- it's big enough for a big rucksack but not your backpack. There is enough space in each room and it comes complete with air conditioning but only one main bedroom light. There are three shower/toilet cubicles as one is broken -- they are pretty clean and they offer hot showers as well as toilet paper but the bathrooms are very small and very busy in the morning and then around 5. There are sinks and a mirror on the wall in the extra small corridor.

Common Spaces

There is one common area which is where you come in when you enter the hostel and bedrooms. There is one free computer to use, which is pretty slow; one table that the owner usually uses as her desk, so not much room to sit and eat; and a couple of seats/sofas in front of a flat screen TV on the wall, with ten or so DVDs to choose from. The common area is pretty small for amount of people staying there but still pretty clean and bright. There is a kitchen and fridge to use but only kettle and microwave, toaster to use -- no cooker!

Summary

We think the hostel is good value. Be warned the owner can be up and down with how nice she wants to be. Sometimes she -- as well as any other staff -- won't be there for few hours, so you'll have to wait if you have a problem. The smell in the stairs entrance is very strange. This place is right next to some cheap places to eat and a hundred metres from MRT, which is perfect as it's on the line for city and airport!

4  Clean cheap room. Good value for money. A cheap and good option for hotel in Singapore. Very clean room and really friendly staff. Felt secure and the location close to the MRT is great. To take a taxi home from Singapore center to the hotel is about 15 SGD in the nighttime. The only thing missing is a safety deposit. But if you speak to the manager you can leave some things at his office. We had the private room and it was fresh and that part of the hotel were renovated recently. If you are a budget traveler I recommend this hotel as a good option.  , Sweden ()
4  Felt right at home if you were to look from the outside you'll probably freak out coz it's right smack in the busiest area in geylang -- red light district. less than a hundred steps from the mrt station, located on the 3rd level of an old building. soon as i entered the floor, shoes are kept outside to maintain cleanliness indoors. the common area was well lit. there were 2 long dining tables, a couch, massage chair, flat screen tv with hundreds of movies to watch, 4 shower rooms and toilets, fridge, microwave, toaster and thermos, washing machine & dryer, and a flat iron, too. towels are provided, breakfast is free, 2 shared desktops with high speed internet connection. you can connect your laptops and phones to the wifi provided as well and it's also free! the rooms are quite small especially i stayed in the 8 bed space but the mattress was soft, two pillows and a duvet, an aircon that really works 24 hours non stop. it's easy to make friends with the other bed spacers, dinnertime tends to be a feast for most workers who decided to stay there. it is relatively cheap compared to renting a room to yourself. landlord and agent/staff were rather nice and felt like family. home away from home.  , Philippines ()
