The Hostelz.com Review
Jopi Hostel, just opened in 2009, is just a fifteen-minute walk from the train station (which is also where the airport bus leaves you) but it's not on the side of the concrete bridge that leads to town, which is the main entrance (or at least the one easiest to recognize).

The Location

When exiting the station (or coming out of the bus) by the concrete footbridge, you need to get off the concrete footbridge and go right, and then right again, to pass under the railway tracks (there is a underbridge with pavement on both sides). Don't go up the street straight in front of the underbridge but take the parallel one to the left, called ul. Plebiscytowa, and that's the street of the hostel (it's number 23, on the right side of the road).

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dormitories have four or six beds, and the whole hostel has twenty-eight beds. The bunks are steel frames, and the four-bed dorms are quite small but cosy and welcoming. The mattresses and covers are comfortable. Each bed has a locker, but no bedside table or lamp. The corridor doors are quite loud when they close and this can disrupt sleep if you are next to one of those (but you've got earplugs, haven't you?).
The bathrooms are clean and modern but there is no bath mat so the floor quickly becomes soaked and slippery. There are hooks, and toilets are a separate room, meaning less risk of queuing.

Common Spaces

The hostel as a largish lounge with some tables, book exchange, and a TV. This is also where the kitchen is, where free breakfast of toast, cheese, jam, honey, and coffee/tea is served. Tea/coffee are available all day for free. There is one internet PC but it costs a per-hour fee. Wireless internet is free and available in rooms and lounge. The reception staff is very friendly and helpful, there are free maps and pizza place fliers there. You have to leave your key when you go out, and the staff buzzes you in (reception is manned at all times).

Summary

Jopi Hostel is a new hostel in Katowice. Although the town does not have much to offer, you will find a great traditional restaurant nearby. Here you can enjoy typical Polish food and it is not expensive!

5  Perfect The small ,very nice hostel, helpful staff. Not far from train station and City-center. I was been some days ago there.  , Latvia ()
5  Perfect!! The hostel is very clean! And not far from the train station.  , Ukraine ()
5  Excellent value This place was clean; had internet fast enough for Skype calls; secure lockers and comfortable beds; was in a safe, convenient location; and had helpful staff. The kitchen has everything you need to cook your own meals, including a sandwich grill. I stayed there for several weeks while on business, and would gladly do it again. The price was right, too.  , USA ()
4  Good hostel We've been there in january 2009. Good, clean, and very hospitable hostel. We've been there when the hostel was just opened, so i cannot tell much about the cleanliness at this moment. I'm going to book this hostel again for this summer!  , Netherlands ()
