The Hostelz.com Review
The Seward Snow River Hostel is about 16 miles North of Seward, so you'll need a car to reach it. The hostel overlooks a hill and the view from is great. A small creek also flows nearby. The hostel is run by John Lennon (no, not that John Lennon) and Edna. Edna is a school teacher and is a very nice and friendly person.
The hostel is very clean. Spacious cabins are also available. Whether you stay in the hostel or cabins, you share the kitchen and the bathrooms at the main hostel building. The bathroom is exceptionally clean. And the kitchen is fully equipped and also very clean. It has all the basic utensils -- and a massive old heater. The dining area has a large table that can seat eight. The bunks of the main hostel are upstairs. At the time of this review bunks cost $15 a night.

Stunning! The best place on earth and a lovely family running it! In alaska is the best place we've been! — Elisabetta , Italy (2009-10-08)

Wonderful place to stay I stayed in the homesteader's cabin. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful surroundings. Wonderful hostess. — Lynda , USA (2009-02-04)

Clean, quiet, friendly hostel This was a nice hostel to stay at-it was very quiet and located about twelve miles north of Seward. The owners are very nice people, and the hostel, while somewhat basic, was very comfortable and "Alaskan" feeling. I would recommend it to travelers with cars who want to stay outside of town -- there are trails in the area and it is located close to a river. — Anon , US (2008-02-26)

We stayed a couple of nights in this hostel in Seward. The private room we stayed was very clean and nice. The kitchen was pretty good. Overall, we had a good stay in this place. — Swami (2006-07-06)

Great place,...a cozy old hunting lodge with a big spread out kitchen
bar and lots of books. I popped in and out for dozens of nights during a summer long stay. Home away from home to a wandering painter who worships the spectacular vistas of the Kenai.....Hi to Mr. and Mr.s Lennon! — john the wanderer (2005-12-14)

This was a very nice place. Manager - Mrs. Lennon - was a lovely lady and very helpful. There was a female and a male bunk room and a private room for three which we requested and used. Two bathrooms and showers in the facility, a breakfast area and kitchen utensils. Lock on front door and on bedroom. Very nice area. Very safe. Very clean and comfortable. — Anonymous (2005-07-31)

We three women asked for and reserved a private room. It was upstairs, and it was clean and comfy. The main area is large and clean, and there is an old, wood-burning, cast-iron cooking stove. The place you register at is next door - over an amazing creek. The downstairs is spacious, with a huge table surrounded by many dining room chairs, sofas and such. The outside of the building is charming. There are many good hiking trails nearby.
The town area of Seward is what we were interested in, and it has many artsy shops and a GREAT Bakery,"The Ranting Raven" (excellent quiche for breakfast), as well as an adjoining gift shop with unique items at good prices. (The bathrooms and showers at the hostel were being worked on in mid to late June, 2004, and that will be a blessing - but they do work.) It was a good exerience. A full-size kitchen lines one wall of the lower hostel. — Carole Caravaggio (2004-07-06)
