I stayed here early 2006 and really enjoyed it. Alan and his parents were really friendly and all real characters. I had a room to myself and spent alot of the time watching some of the great collection of dvds that Alan has (there are some bad dvds too, Erin Brockovich). The downstairs rooms have just been professionally renovated and I'm sure will look great when finished! I found Alan to be a funny guy and extremely helpful. Definitely worth staying there, I found it really good vaule for money!

I have stayed at the hostel many times in 2004 and 2005 (even before Alan was managing it) and have always found the staff very courteous. A lot of the off season time I get a room to myself, which is really nice. I have enjoyed each stay at Boyle's Hostel, and I would recommend it as a safe and clean place to stay. I have seen a lot of new additions in the past year, like the great patio deck, and the new bunk house. Keep up the good work!

I had the pleasure of coming up to Fairbanks during the off season and had the entire hostel to myself. Allen (the owner) was extremely hospitable from the moment I walked in the door. My room was cozy and it even had a television and VCR. There were so many movies available to watch (free) that I suspected Allen had bought out a video store. It was also quite obvious that he had recently spent a great deal of time renovating the house. I learned that Allen looks after his elderly parents after I saw them cruising around. Nevertheless, I felt quite welcome in the presence of his entire family. Also, there was, in fact, a computer in a closet (all part of the wonderful experience of traveling if you ask me). I met some nice people, had a clean and comfortable place to stay, and learned a lot about a place that was new to me. I'm happy. The next time I'm in Fairbanks I will certainly stay at Boyle's Hostel.

A friend and I stayed at Boyle's hostel in August 2005. We enjoyed our stay. We slept in the beautifully remodeled bunkroom (which had been a garage). The bunks had new mattresses and were quite comfortable. Sheets and pillows were on the beds, and blankets were provided upon request, although other people brought their own sleeping bags. It was a short walk to the bathrooms and kitchen in the house. The deck is very nice.
It was quiet and peaceful. We also enjoyed talking to Alan and the other guests. His parents are elderly and they both were friendly to us. There is free Internet access for guests. (Yes, it is in a closet, but that worked fine for me.)
The bus line is at the end of the street. The neighborhood is not fancy, but my friend and I are both senior citizen ladies and we felt comfortable there. I would stay there again when I am in Fairbanks.

Both inside and out, this place was a mess! It's also in a terrible neighborhood, at the end of a down-and-out street. We went in and it was gross from the outset...too much stuff everywhere, people stashed everywhere, one in a closet on a computer, three more in a tiny living room. The outside bunk area was huge but not very inviting. The manager was ok, but he was going to get rid of the one guy he'd put in the bunk so we could have it instead (must have seen $75 for 3 rather than $25 for 1 and liked it a lot). He kept insisting we look at his whole place although we knew we could not stay there. I'm not sure of its safety; I would be worried if I had to stay there.

This place was terrible. The hostel owners have gone senile, and Allen, their son, is doing a terrible job of running the place. Allen easily becomes stressed and upset. I walked into the room before I was advised of the no shoes policy, and the guy grabbed my arm and literally yanked me back out the door. This was absolutely the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. Unless you'd enjoy hearing an elderly lady nag at her 50-year-old manchild son about dinner getting cold, I'd suggest sleeping in the gutter before this place.

A beautiful place in a fabulous location (near the bus and downtown). While I was staying here, Allan (the manager, who is a pretty darn cool guy!) was finishing a new wheelchair-friendly deck and a new bunkhouse (each absolutely beautiful)! The kitchen is nice, as are the living quarters. A great place to stay!

I spent one night here, and had a room to myself. The room only had one set of bunks (sheets included) so the room held two people at maximum. It had a nice comfy chair and a reading light. There was a good clean kitchen with a coffee maker and coffee, stove, and fridge. Allan, the manager, was very nice and helpful. This hostel is within walking distance of downtown.
