The Hostelz.com Review

The Island Hotel Bali is a warm and welcoming place to stay. The staff are very helpful and interesting to talk to; it is easy to meet other travelers here, too, which is great for us as solo travelers.

The Location

The Island Hostel is ideally located in between two great neighbouring areas, Kuta and Semiyak. Kuta Beach and its infamous nightlife is no more than fifteen minutes' walk away, or in the other direction is the more upscale beach and beach bars/restaurants, shops, and nightlife of Semiyak. In the immediate area surrounding the hostel you will find a wide array of restaurants, spas, shops, and direct access to the main road where you can get taxis.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms are very spacious, clean, and airy. The beds are comfortable and have an individual socket and light. There is also curtain that gives you a sense of privacy. Lockers are provided in the room but you must use your own padlock. The private rooms are modern in decor. Some rooms have double beds and other have bunk beds. In the room you will find a flat-screen TV, with English satellite, and a DVD player. The en suite bathrooms are clean, modern, and have big-head power showers. The communal bathrooms are kept clean and are for both male and female use.

Common Spaces

There are a few different common spaces in this hostel and they are great for both meeting other travels but also spacious and varied enough to chill out alone if you want to. The common spaces consist of the pool area, a large rooftop seating area and bar that is lovely, or the main cafe/bar area. Here you can buy food and drinks almost all day. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel in all common spaces as well as in the dorms and rooms.

There are no kitchen facilities to make your own meals however, there are many places to eat locally at a very decent price you could eat in the cafe/restaurant on sight. The breakfast is very good; you have a varied selection of food and drink.

Summary

This is not a party hostel, but the area is in a great location to reach the nightlife on foot, but at the same time a wonderful oasis in the middle of the city.

Amazing!
We were a little concerned walking down a side street to reach this place but it is most definetly worth it. The staff were friendly, the hotel was kept very clean and rooms were excellent for the price. It looks exactly like its photos. The cafe makes stone baked pizzas inexpensive (£2.50!) and they were gorgeous and breakfast is included which Is also lovely. We wish we could of stayed longer!

Makes hostels half the price look bad, but that's not fair
The upstairs dorm is better than the downstairs one. Attracts a good crowd. Pool is nice, wifi works ... usually. Food is good but quite overpriced. Beds are soft but needs more outlets. Housekeeping wakes up the dorms daily at 10am ... stop! The loft privates at 500k are better value than dorms if you have a friend. But overall all rooms are overpriced. Also, free massage if you review them and show reception ... I assume it needs to be positive.
