Big Tree Lodge combines colonial charm with the comforts of home. Our large colonial villa and former vicarage still features most of the original timber panelling and furniture. It also offers free high-speed Wi-Fi, a free internet terminal, free laundry facilities, modern and spacious bathrooms with separate toilets and a comfy community living room including a log burner, books, jigsaws, boards games and DVDs. Our huge, fully-equipped kitchen is directly connected to the living area.

There are six lockable bedrooms: twin, double or four-bed share plus one three-bed share room for our female guests. And the best part? No bunk beds!

Our beds are made up with fresh linen and duvets, clean and heated. In wintertime there are optional electric blankets available, if you’re too tired to relax by the cosy log burner after a hard day on the slopes.

We have free lockable dry-rooms and snowboard/ski tuning (wax $10, wax’n’edging $20). If you want to tune the gear yourself, that’s for free too!

We also offer free private off-street parking, mountain transport and door-to-door airport transfer and 15% discount vouchers for ski shop rentals at one of the ski shops in Methven. Plus, we’re only five minutes’ walk from town centre!

Location	•Big Tree Lodge Methven is located at 25 South Belt, two streets from the town centre of Methven Mt Hutt Village. • • From Christchurch head south towards Timaru on State Highway 1. Look for the Big Fish on the right just over the Rakaia River Bridge and turn right before the Mobil petrol station. At the roundabout turn left towards Mayfield down 'Thompson’s Track' (about 18kms) then follow the signs for Methven (about another 18kms). At the main intersection in Methven with the Blue Pub on your right, turn left down the main street (SH77) and South Belt is the second street on the right. This is the quickest route. • • From Queenstown and the inland lakes: The short route for those in a hurry: from SH8 in Fairlie, turn left at the sign to Geraldine and follow SH 72 (the Inland Scenic Route) until Mayfield then turn right at the major intersection just out of Mayfield where you then turn almost immediately left (signpost says Rakaia). Keep on this road till you come to a T-intersection, and then turn left as the sign post says to Methven. When you come to the 50km sign South Belt is the next left go down to no.25 on the left. • For those not in a hurry take the scenic route along SH72, turn right down Pudding Hill Road towards Methven turn right down Hobbs Road and go round the back of the Golf Club, further down the road this becomes South Belt. After Wayne place we are on the right down the driveway to the right (nice and quiet!) • • You can take a shuttle bus from Christchurch Airport to Methven - departing at lunchtime only due to earthquake. Prebook it and then on arrival go to the Travel and Information Desk in the International Arrivals Hall where the driver will meet you. For inner city departure contact Methven Travel or Newman’s Coachlines for times and pick-up location. • • Travel Times vary depending on road conditions. Allow 10-20 minutes drive to the base of Mt Hutt and an hour or so to Christchurch Airport.
