The Hostelz.com Review
A&O Köln Neumarkt is an extremely clean, well organized hostel. Although it’s not so centrally located, it’s easily accessible by public transport. However, there is nothing included in the price other than your stay. If you want anything other than that (and that means really anything) you have to pay extra. The building has been recently renovated and there are plenty of rooms available.
The Location
The hostel is not so close to the main attractions, but it’s still possible to walk if you have the disposition. It takes about thirty minutes walking to the cathedral, but public transport is plentiful and easily accessible. There are many supermarkets, drugstores, restaurants, and bars in the area. The corner where the hostel is located, however, is not too busy or loud at night. Parking is available in the basement, at a price.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are single and double private bedrooms, and four- and six-bedroom mixed dorms with bunk beds. All bedrooms have a private shower and a separated toilet, which are very new and thoroughly clean. There are no lockers in the room, but the doors are only opened with a magnetic card. Bed sheets and towels are rented.
Common Spaces
The main common area is the large hostel lounge. It has computers for guest use (but not free internet), a bar with snacks and beer, a pool table, a space with a few armchairs, and a small kids area with toys and a tent. Breakfast is a nice and varied buffet served in a large salon in the basement, but it’s also an extra charge. The reception can be crowded, since you need to go there to pay for most services. There is no kitchen for guest use.

This place is quite new and spotless, and offers good service. Staff are helpful, but the atmosphere feels very impersonal and sober.
