The Hostelz.com Review
Amazigh Hostel, built into the side of a mountain, is a destination in itself. At the time of our visit, it had been open only a few months, but was already up and running in a professional manner. The architecture and decor combine old with new and indoors with outdoors. Well situated within five kilometers of the coast, the hostel offers bike rentals and the friendly owners and staff are eager to give you suggestions for your outings.
Location
This hostel is easy to find. The bus drops you off at the tourist information center. From there, turn around and cross the bridge. Take the first right, and the hostel will be on your left, set back a bit from the street. When we arrived, without a reservation, a staff member was out on the street waiting to usher us in.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms have modern wooden bunks, and although they are a bit crowded, the rooms have an airy feel to them, and ours had two ensuite bathrooms (sparkling clean and in perfect working order). The bunks each have locking drawers underneath for storing personal belongings, and each dorm room is locked for additional security. There are also private rooms available.
Common Spaces
The really spectacular thing about this hostel is all the common area. We counted four, and we're still not sure if we saw them all. From the nouveau-antique style kitchen, which is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a sumptuous, gourmet meal, you can walk out into an enclosed patio, open to the sky with the side of a mountain (with cactus growing out of it) serving as one of the walls. From there, climb the open-air staircase to your room. Stop in one of the comfortable lounges to watch a DVD (at the time we stayed, they had a Michael Jackson DVD and hoped to add to their collection), or use the free internet service.
The piece de resistance is the rooftop with cushioned lounge chairs on a wooden deck overlooking the city on one side and the mountain on the other. We were sad that our trip only lasted a day, because we would have loved to have spent more time on the roof.
Summary
All in all, we loved our stay at this hostel and look forward to coming back. Staying there feels like a luxurious break in the middle of a summer full of chaotic hosteling. At the time we stayed, there were very few guests, so we can't say what it would be like when it is more crowded, but with the facilities that it has, it seems to be well equipped to handle crowds as well.
