The Hostelz.com Review
Yellow House is quiet and clean, even though not very welcoming to lonely travelers. The facilities are excellent, with a touch on the seventies side, but very well conserved. There are two buildings -- one with reception, sauna, and individual rooms and other with larger rooms, vending machines, and a lounge.

In most Swedish hostels (SVIF and STF networks, at least), you're responsible for leaving the room in the same condition you found it. It means make the bed when you leave and empty the waste basket. They provide all the material and it's a nice thing to do for the next fellow traveler.

The kitchen has it all -- microwave, electric kettle, coffeemaker (a must in all Swedish hostels), dishes. Also, there are three tables and a radio to make you cozy on those really cold and dark Kiruna winter nights. The bathroom is exemplary, with heater, good space, and hot water at all times. The atmosphere is not exactly lively, but it's surely a secure, calm place to spend your time.

The location is excellent, close to the town center. If you come by bus, from the airport or otherwise, just go straight to the center square, near the tourism office and follow the path/street on the right side of the tourism office building. Whenever you come to a large avenue, the other side is the hostel street (closed to traffic from that side).

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
1  Nightmare of my life We had a problem in Kiruna and had the bad luck to stay for 3 nights in the worst place in the whole world. NO internet access, dirty, showers in other building when outside was -28C, problems in communication with the owner and many many other things. We received also a menace note like he will call the police because he don't receive the payment; because until 2 pm the reception was close and we had some problems day before and arrived at hostel after 1 am the second day we find stick on our car menace notice he will call the police and we will have big big problems. How stupid can you be when you see the car in the parking and our stuff in the rooms to think you are out without paying?  , Romania ()
5  Can't go wrong! The Yellow House hostel in Kiruna is in a great location, close to the town and to open spaces. The rooms are old but clean and the hostel offers everything you could want including several showers, and small but well equipped kitchen and a television in each room. Claes the owner was really helpful, and allows a late check out if the next guests are not arriving too early the next day. If you visit Kiruna, stay here and save your cash for the expensive excursions!  , Ireland ()
1  Not recommended, old and bad beds, unfriendly The owner is an idiot. I will be back to Kiruna but never to this hostel again. The beds and everything in general is old, I spent three days with a bad backache because of the crappy beds. It is hard to have a good rest there. As I said, the man there is the unfriendliest person I've met in Scandinavia. It makes things difficult, lies, and tries to make you pay more as far as he can. Usually things are dirty and you will have to clean twice -- before and after using something. I strongly do not recommend this hostel.  , Monaco ()
2  Can't recommend this hostel We arrived 2:30 at the hostel, went into the reception house. The reception opens at 2, but nobody was there. We waited twenty minutes, then a very very unfriendly man came to give us our keys and instructions. First we did not feel that good there, it was not dirty or too small, but very old. The Sauna can not be used, it is very dirty and used as a lumber-room, it is unuseable. The kitchen is ok, but we only cooked very easy things, because of the in part very old and disgusting environment. Some of the instructions to live there are, clean the whole kitchen every time you used it. I have been in some hostels, it is really possible to live there, but the man is very unfriendly and I often stayed in better hostels!  , Germany ()
5  This hostel is by far the best hostel I've stayed in throughout Europe. The only thing I would caution you concerns making reservations. The man who works at the reception isn't the friendliest, but if he tells you that the rooms are filling up fast, don't believe him. We brought an extra friend, and although we were given a four-bed room, he only let the three of us stay in there. I think he wanted to make an extra 300 kronor that he charged my friend for a single room. Also, the place is rarely booked, so don't let him pressure you into making a reservation ASAP. Beyond all this, the location is unbeatable, the rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated, there is a nice, full-equipped kitchen, there are hot showers, there is a sauna, and the rooms are very clean. All the rooms are quite large and have a TV. He provides alarm clocks and plenty of blankets for free. I would definitely stay here again.  ()
