i've been around the world for seventeen years, ninety-four-odd countries, and i came to the lodge first time in 1994. It was just starting of then, the place became magic after all that hard work and sweat throughout the years from all the travelers that got stuck there. I lived there for months, made friends, and we all rebuilt the place and had the best times on this planet. i visit throughout the years up to 2000, from all the places and hostels i been this was the best. the management and owners were amazing spiritual people. it's a shame that it all had to end like this. i wish them all the best, and the new owners luck in this beautiful restored old house. — eddie the ducth (2007-01-17)Oak Lodge has just been sold!! and the new owners will be cleaning it up and starting afresh. Please do come and see how much better it has become. — Michelle (2005-08-19)

We tried three different backpackers in Cape Town and we ended in this cool place! It is certainly the best place to stay in Cape Town!! The old house is beautiful and the people extremely friendly and helpful! Don't hesitate! — Fanz (2005-06-09)

Great hostel. I would love to visit again. — Phil Thomas (2005-04-06)
This place is a mess! When we were there in January, the organization of this place went to pot. The bar was never open, the door was always locked, the manager was usually stoned and when it came to us wanting to leave, there was nobody there for three days to give us our passports. DO NOT GO HERE! — Anonymous (2005-03-31)

This place had very nice people, and it's a wonderful place in the middle of everything. Special thanks to Johnathan for everything (I hope I spelled the name okay!). — Sabina and Gideon — Gideon Zaidman (2005-03-22)

It's a wonderfully eclectic place. The lodge is wholly unique. If you don't enter with an open mind, it may seem a bit strange. It's not a BUSINESS; it's special, it's for creative souls. I wish I'd never left. Please check it out, you won't regret it. It's a treat for the traveler. — Scott Day (2005-01-26)

Great people, and a great place to stay. — Anonymous (2004-09-22)
The flats are dirty and too far away from the lodge. Major construction made the lodge messy and bar was dead most nights - I left after one night. — Anonymous (2003-11-17)
