The backpack is a spotlessly clean hostel with helpful and friendly staff. It's only five minutes away (walking) from Long Street's clubs and shops. There's an in-house bar (and restaurant) which sells very cheap beers. It has a fireplace in the corner and a very warm and relaxed atmosphere. Great views of the table mountains either from the inner courtyard or the terrace add to the charm.
There are private safes and a large and well furnished kitchen for guest's use. All the rooms are named after animals, the bathrooms are cleaned many times a day, and all have large showers. There's a TV lounge, a book exchange shelf, and loads of pamphlets for activities in and out of South Africa.
