The Hostelz.com Review
New York Lights Hostel is simple and has a character of its own. It’s neither historical, grand, central, nor new but it’s a bargain for the mildly adventurous and it fosters a laid-back atmosphere.
The Location
Don't be misled, it’s not central, though the location has its advantages. The fortress and pedestrian center is a hike, it's about forty-five minutes' walk. The train and bus stations are a little bit closer but still a hike if you didn't pack extremely lightly. Public transportation, however, is very good and cheap. Trams (streetcars) will take you to the city or main stations in just a few minutes. A stop on the suburban subway train is also within easy walking distance. It’s no problem to find the hostel, just follow Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra from the city center and look for the sign once you get to about the street number.
There are lots of restaurants and shops around, many open late. Ask the staff where the supermarket is -- it’s nearby but not so easy to find on your own. There is an outdoor market across the street and another up the hill behind the hostel. There is a market building with lots of cheap clothes and fakes a few blocks away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is just one big dorm room with bunk beds and lockers in-room. Some private rooms are located off of the main dorm, some off of the court yard. The bathroom is large with two sets of fixtures in well-separated nooks/stalls.
Common Spaces
The hostel is located around an inner courtyard. It’s very comfortable to chill there at the tables among greenery. There is also a large common room at the entrance. The TV is sure to be blaring away, and guests can use the computer. Also there is a kitchenette area at the end of the room. The staff are often hanging out around here -- they're helpful and great hosts. A relaxed attitude is certainly the aim. It depends on who shows up as it’s a small place.

The hostel is cheap and a value for those who don't mind something a little different and not being able to walk absolutely everywhere.
