The Hostelz.com Review
Punakaiki Beach Hostel is a newly re-decorated hostel on the west coast of New Zealand. The hostel is located in a prime location for various activities including a beach, the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, and many hiking trails.

The hostel itself is split into three different buildings, the owners house/office, the main dorm area, and then the Seashell house. The common area is large and spaciou with a good sized tv and plenty of reading material. The rooms are brightly decorated and very cozy. Each bed has it's on reading lamp and a little wooden stand for alarm clocks, glasses, etc. The mattresses are comfy and the pillows just right. There isn't any bedding so make sure to bring a sleeping bag.

The bathrooms are clean and individual giving into a brief flashback of when you actually had your own bathroom with privacy. The water pressure is good and so is the hot water. There is a hot tub out near the main building for all night time swims and a quaint pub next to the seashell house but make sure to get cash in greymouth or Franz Josef because there isn't an ATM around for a few hundred miles.

All in all the area is beautiful and the hostel is unique and cozy.

Great hostel right on the beach and a close walk to Pancake Rocks and Punakaiki Caverns. We sat in the hot tub to watch the sun set- you can't really beat that!

It's a long while ago that I have been to New Zealand but I have the best memories of this hostel. I remember it had a few things in the house made from driftwood, like the stair rail or towel rails, which made this place really special. The location is excellent. In the "old times" they also had freshly baked bread and muffins for a little fee. I loved this place I would always return.
