Awful hostel, with awful staff, but it was very cheap and I didn't expect it to be wonderful. Nobody speaks English!

This hostel has the feel of a hotel, but it is a very good option for staying in Moscow. It is extremely close to a Metro stop, although the stop is towards the end of a line, so it takes some time to get to the city center. The breakfast is very good, and the staff are very helpful for getting around Moscow and arranging train tickets. There is a grocery store located across the street from the hostel, although there is not a kitchen facility available.

After staying at this hostel, we learned that it consists of the worst two floors of a hotel. So, we could have stayed at the hotel (on one of the other floors) for the same price and had a better experience. The room was kind of dirty, and the bathroom was extremely dirty. The guys outside playing guitars and singing at night were neat. The location of the hostel, in one of the residential areas of the city, was a neat learning experience for us. In all, it was ok, but there are a lot better and nicer places to stay in Moscow for the money.

This hostel is now located on the 5th floor. We stayed here for three nights and it was clean, there was hot water in the shower, the people at the reception were always present, they spoke English and were friendly.
The hostel doesn't have the kitchen facilities listed in the description on this site anymore.

This is the worst experience I have had in any hostel. A tip to other travelers: avoid this place at all costs! The first night I stayed here, I woke up the next morning with flea bites. I informed reception and they wouldn't move me. The next morning I was covered in ticks. Finally they moved me. For 20 dollars a night this was an absolute disgrace. There was also no hot running water in the hotel.

It is a dive. Gum stuck to the head board, plaster peeling off of the walls, etc... And, too far from the center.

I organised a group of 10 travellers to stay at this hostel over the New Year period. Our experience of staying at this hostel was the worst I have ever encountered. To say the rooms and service provided was poor is an understatement for the following reasons:
1. The 24 hour reception is only open on an ad hoc basis depending on when the receptionist decides to sleep or feels inclined to open the room.
2. We arrived at the hostel at 6.00am from an overnight train, which is a common route for travellers, and were told by Sergei (the receptionist), after waking him, to come back at 12.00 when reception
open. We returned to the hostel at 12.00 and when the reception opened at 12.45 we were made to wait on the floor in the hall way for 3 hours while the visas were registered by Mariana (another receptionist) as they could not provide rooms until this was complete (we knew this was not the norm for Russia as we had already stayed in St Petersburg and Novgorod).
3. They managed to register 2 of our friends for the wrong amount of time, and check them out of their room a day earlier then they were due to fly out.
3. The rooms should be condemned by health and safety and are NOT inhabitable. They should not be sold to any traveller, let alone at $20UDS per person per night. The room we were given at the hostel can be described as follows:
* The walls were with a mystery brown substance
* The corners of the room smelt of urine
* The roof was splattered almost entirely with another mystery brown substance
* The beds were similarly revolting and were only laid on on the first night with the protection of a sleeping bag!
* The towels provided were rags
* There were obvious electrical faults with wiring
* There were cracks down the walls
* Window panes were held in with electrical tape
* The bathroom was revoltingly dirty in the sink, bath and toilet
* There was a cockroach infestation throughout the adjoining rooms and shared bathroom. The light was left off over night and we discovered later that the walls of the bathroom were covered in cockroaches.

Dirty and Rude are the first two things which come to mind. I stayed here with 9 friends over the new year period 2003 / 2004 and it really was bad. The 24 hour reception was only open periodically, they were unfriendly and we were left sitting in the corridor for numerous hours before we were given a room (despite the fact that we were told we would have a room in 15 minutes). The state of the rooms are appalling with large brown marks on the walls, and my room stunk of inground smoke. The hostel has all the charm of a rotting animal.

I found this hostel remarkably useless. It was a complete gamble as to whether or not the reception was open at any given time and if you want to get checked into your room inside of three hours this might not be the place for you.
Their rooms were in a completely disgraceful state. They smelt of urine and stale smoke with the windows secured into place with only the finest duct tape. One thing you will not have to worry about is being cold. The heating is turned well up and as you can not control it within the room you will have to sleep with the window open (even in the height of winter) to stop yourself absolutely cooking!
If at all possible find another alternative for your stay in Moscow as this hostel only tainted my experience.
