The hostel is newly refurbished and this is reflected in the modern new rooms -- all of which have good beds, cosy duvets, and nice smelling linen. Lockers and drawers under the bed are provided for each person and ensure the rooms stay clean and tidy. Mixed and single sex dorms are availiable as well as very nice doubles and twins with shared bathrooms. The hostel is very safe with code access to get into the building and therefore no curfew.
Bathrooms are equally modern, clean, and well maintained. They have good hot showers and fancy lights that turn on as you walk in the room. A large, well-equipped kitchen has communal spices and condiments and baskets for every guest to keep their food away from prying fingers. It also has proper tables and chairs and free tea and coffee are provided.
A nice comfortable lounge with cable TV and a large selection of free DVDs gives the hostel a very homey feel and people all sit around together. It is not really a party hostel but is a place to meet other people. It is a nice refuge from the hoards of travellers on the many buses (e.g. Kiwi Experience and Magic) that are carted into other hostels.
The manager is very friendly and has honest recommendations. She is particularly good at recommending cheap jugs in Dunedin! Facilities also include free calls for local numbers, luggage storage, and washing machines. A good, safe refuge after a hard day of museums and sightseeing!
