Hostelz.com's Review
Best Island Hostel is unbeatable for the location and value!

The Location

Located right next to the Hagia Sofia in the Old Town of Istanbul, it's perfect for exploring the main tourist attractions of the city including within walking distance, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, and the Spice Bazaar. The tram is within walking distance as well, which makes it easy to get around the greater areas of Istanbul, as well as the airports, although Sabiha is a little less connected (tram, ferry, and bus). The neighbourhood is reasonably safe as there are a lot of hotels in the area, although girls may get talked to by the shop owners. The hostel is reasonably easy to find, and has good signage outside.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are a number of smaller rooms and private rooms available, to which you have your own key, although the terrace/tent and eighteen-bed dorm at the top of the building have neither doors and keys, nor any lockers, so security is a bit lacking, although there are security cameras in operation. There are a lot of narrow staircases to get to the top rooms -- and no lift -- so that can be tricky with a big bag. The dorm room is reasonably cramped, with not much room for your bags as the mattresses used for outside are placed inside when not in use. The views from the dorm and terrace are very impressive, though. You can see both mosques and also the Bosphorous, with beautiful sunsets and sunrises!

There aren't very many showers available and they are the hold-the-shower-head style, and there is nowhere to place your things either, but the hot water is good, and the toilets all work, although there are only a few of those available, too.

Common Spaces

There is a small common room available on one of the floors that has a two-seater couch, although most people seem to hang out on the sidewalk, which is set up with chairs and tables, and where breakfast is served. The atmosphere is really good at this hostel -- while everyone is happy to meet other people and have a good chat, it's not the biggest party hostel.
They do also provide facilities such as luggage storage and a book exchange, and the Wi-Fi works throughout the hostel, although it can be a bit slow.

Summary

This hostel really can't be beaten for the location and value. Although it's not quite five-star standard, it does the job very effectively!
