The Hostelz.com Review
Hostal Acuarela is a cool jumping-off point for exploring Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. They have great home-cooked breakfast, colorfully-decorated breakfast, and amazing views.
The Location
Located atop a hill near many other hostels and upscale cafes, the hostel has a great rooftop deck spot where you have a view of the whole Valparaiso shoreline. The view from the dorm room in particular is jaw-dropping. There is a main entrance on the street but it might be locked if the owners' infant son is sleeping so try the side entrance.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm room has about nine bunked beds with very colorful linens. The bedroom is large and lofty, with a great view down to the water. The beds are pre-made wooden bunk beds, but the ceiling is very high.
Each person has a locker and colorful towels can be used for a deposit fee. The toilet and sink are ensuite and clean but the shower is down the hallway. There are also private rooms available.
Common Spaces
The owners are a young couple and every morning they make fresh bread from scratch for breakfast, along with fruit, coffee, and tea. The kitchen is available for your use the rest of the day.
The common room has a TV and DVDs that you can watch. There are two cats to play with and the owners have a toddler, too (but don't worry, he's quiet at night). From the main floor up to the rooms is an amazing wrought-iron spiral staircase in an atrium. The upper floors have lots of windows to maximize natural light and take in the views to the sea.

The staff are very helpful in telling you where to go (and not to go) in Valparaiso. The location is great and the hostel has a beautiful, airy design.
