Strowis is located in central Utrecht and should be easy to find on a map. Boothstraat is a very small street.
Compared to other Netherland hostel prices, Strowis is a bargain. There is a members' kitchen, which is ok, and a separate fridge downstairs which isn't closed in the later evening like the kitchen is.
Internet access is free and the connection good, but expect to wait as there is just one computer. The common room is large, spacious, and beautiful with comfortable antique-style furniture. The staff are helpful and will provide glasses for your beers. They also sell snacks and N/A beverages. The outdoor patio garden is beautiful, and a good place to enjoy Holland's very best, available just around the corner.
The rooms and bathrooms are all very clean, and showers are good and hot. The cheap dorms have 14 beds but are very spacious and beds are comfy. An extra 1.50 for linens may be a good idea. For a comfortable, social stay in a non-touristy Dutch university town, this is a very good spot.

Nazi staff and dirty. Don't go there. They kicked me out and scared with the police, because I asked for a hot water. In this place you are said that you'll be able to use a kitchen, but next day you find out that it's closed till 12.30! If you gets up at 7, there is only 5 hours to wait for a coffee or ... you can buy a breakfast at the bar -- expensive and from old food 0- for 7euros!I had my coffee, sugar and milk, when I said I don't like the idea of paying for the cup of hot water, they said I'm impolite and kick me out. This people are crazy, scared me with the police because of water??? Positive things first. Strowis is situated in a nice, quiet small street, at a pleasant fifteen minutes' walk from the central station and in a formerly squatted seventeenth century building. Utrecht itself is a beautiful laid-back place, the hostel location is good, and you can easily reach the city center and most places of interest within a walk of twenty minutes. I found the Strowis staff to be very kind and helpful, they really make you feel welcome and will assist you with practically everything they can. Less pleasant is the value you get for your money -- at least if you book a single room. I paid 67 € (including breakfast) per night for a small, depressing room under the roof that only had two tiny roof windows (absolutely no view at all, but at least a little daylight). Apart from a very small washbasin, there were absolutely no amenities in the room -- only raw walls and ceiling, linoleum on the floor (very cold on your feet in early December), a bed, a bedside locker, a chair, and that was it. The (shared) shower is of the annoying kind where you have to push a button in order to release a certain amount of water -- forcing people to be conscious about their water consumption is not a bad idea, but this system really sucks. It took ages for the water to get warm, and the shower room was certainly not the most pleasant spot to wait in (shivering) for the water to get acceptably warm. In summer this might be acceptable, in December is definitely was no fun. Worst of all, if you expect to be able to get an undisturbed night of sleep, you better go and find yourself some other place. The rooms are the opposite of sound proof, in fact you can hear every single f***ing word that is spoken (or even whispered) in the rooms next to you or in the hall. If you happen to end up on the same floor as juvenile party folks who come back to the hostel in the middle of the night, be prepared for sleeplessness. The breakfast was a bit uninspired (old bread, boring musli), but tea and coffee were okay -- they charge 6 € for it. Advice, bring earplugs if you want to get some sleep and be prepared for a very basic experience. — JB , Sweden (2009-12-11) More than happy to stay again Eleven of us were on a cycling holiday around the Netherlands. Strowis was the perfect place to return to after a hard day spent riding and an evening spent in Utrecht. In fact the whole town was perfect. I would happily recommend both to anyone who wanted to see a different side to the Holland than just loud Amsterdam. Staff at the hostel were friendly and open when approached but let you enjoy your stay, your way otherwise. I cannot think of one thing about Strowis that did not please me or impress me, especially given the price that is paid for your stay.
