1  Terrible The warden was extremely rude and unwelcoming, for a youth hostel it doesn't seem to want the youth. We did get a bit noisy on the first night but no damage was being caused. The owner started screaming and swearing at us calling us children and said she was going to threat us like children. then proceeded to threaten to throw us out telling us to "get out as she had enough." No warning was given, a simple "folks your getting a bit noisy can you keep it down" would have been enough for us to quieten down. next morning we were able to talk to her to let us stay the following night we ensured we didn't make any noise and the next morning when we were eating our breakfast and making lunches she came in bulling about banging things. I offered to help her take out the rubbish and she snapped at me. I've stayed in many hostels all over ireland and scotland and I have never been threatened in such a manner before. We could understand if it was a high quality new hostel and didn't want to get drink spilled but the place is filthy, there is damp in the hall and in the bathrooms, the shower head is disgusting. the shower is either too cold or so hot it burns. Carpet is coming off the stairs which i nearly tripped on. They shouldn't call it a youth hostel if they don't want young people staying there. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  , Northern Ireland ()
1  Poor Possibly the worst hostel I have stayed in. The owners lack general manners and slammed the door behind us as we left. General conditions where ok, and the location is good, but just let down by the staff.  , Irish ()
4  Friendly, laid back, excellent kitchen and drying room This hostel is unpretentious, with a friendly manageress and laid back atmosphere. The basic facilities offer everything needed for a stay, the kitchen and drying rooms being really good. Too many cooks don't spoil the broth in here! The location is very central yet quiet, except for the sound of the sea when the weather is rough!  , Wales ()
2  Very unpleasant staff myself and 5 friends stayed in the hostel for one night on the 5th of sept 08 and found the lady in charge to be very unpleasant and cheeky. I am in the hospitality trade myself and was very annoyed to see that people are treated like that when we are all tryin to change the face of northern ireland. We were doing a charity walk and would not advise anyone to book in there.  , irish ()
1  I provisionally booked for one night for two. Turned up to find hostel closed. Rang door bell and a woman answered, she said she didn't have to answer the door, and said if i wanted to come in i would need to go in now. I asked my friend who was in the car what he wanted to do, during which she interrupted me again, i said i was asking him at which point she shut the door on me. We didnt go back because considering this was the first person i had met in Newcastle, she was rather rude. We stayed in a b+b and was made to feel most welcome.  ()
4  Easy to find. Common areas are maintained, and it's very clean and comfortable. Great breakfast included.  ()
