The Hostelz.com Review
St Christopher's Inn - Berlin is very similar to others in its chain across Europe. Breakfast is free, the common area is a bar, there is no kitchen, and the rooms are spacious.
The Location
This hostel is steps away from a subway stop -- you can reach anywhere in the city the metro goes. It is about a forty-minute subway ride from the bus station and a ten-minute ride from the train station. It is possible to walk into downtown Berlin, but it would take at least half an hour.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms have electronic locks and a few small in-room lockers, but not enough for everyone in the room to have their own locker. The lockers are large enough to fit a laptop and a small purse, but not large enough for luggage. The beds are bunked and there are several options for number of beds in the room. The bedrooms are large and there is plenty of space for luggage on the floor without tripping over it.
There are gender-separated bathrooms on each floor, with several stalls for toilets and several stalls for showers. These are just large enough to close the door, but not large enough to change in.
Common Spaces
The main common space is the bar on the ground floor and since it is open to guests not staying at the hostel, it is often crowded. There is a loft area above the bar with a pool table, several couches, and a TV, but it is not quiet due to the bar below. There are also pay lockers in this area as well for luggage storage. This is a very social hostel since the only common area is a bar and is lots of fun when there is a good crowd present. Guests are mostly tourists or backpackers and are young and looking for a fun night out. Note, there is no quiet common area space. The only way to get away from the noise of the bar is to head back to the bedrooms.
Summary
This hostel is big and loud and fun. It's a party hostel and caters to the younger backpacker crowd. Breakfast is provided for free in the morning and the bar has great happy hour specials during the week for both food and drink.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Rooms and facilities were great, staff were poor. Beds, showering facilities were fine. Staff were generally very rude. Arrived in a large group and they made us all feel unwelcome and acted as if they expected us to cause trouble. A friend had a complaint regarding the food and the way the staff handled it was incredibly rude and condescending and was probably the worst customer service I have experienced. Not impressed. — Anonymous , Ireland (2012-03-10)

Extraordinary atmosphere, beautiful, and very kind people. That are the most important things to make a hostel a nice hostel. The rest is less important, although that rest was also ok. I don't had any problems with the food, the shower, the bed. The only critical note I can mention is the beer. But that's not the fault of the bar staff. I just recommend the owner(s) of the hostel to import some Belgian beer, because that's the only beer which may be called beer. — wannes , belgium (2007-03-30)

Smoking in the foyer and computer area sucked. The TV room was ok, and it was a pretty social kind of a hostel. The kitchen was pretty tiny and it did not have many facilities, but they did do your dishes for you!!! Nice modern rooms, etc. The showers did kind of block up though (not just one or two of them either!!). A good-enough spot to throw your bags down for a while. — Ollie (2005-11-24)

Great place. There are lots of young people who are ready to party, after they have drunk some beers in the hostel. Staff are very helpful. No curfew or lockout. 24-7 service. — Geert Jansen (2005-08-10)

Another average hostel. The location is right near a Metro stop, which goes to all the main sights, which is nice! I also found the beds to be very noisy, which caused anyone coming in at night to wake up the whole room. — Brandon (2005-06-09)

Probably one of the best hostel experiences I had on my trip. Excellent staff, location (in former East Berlin, gotta love those pedestrian traffic lights!), facilities, and cleanliness. Rooms were spacious and well maintained. — Steve (2005-06-03)

Great hostel! It's very nice and clean, with friendly English-speaking staff. It has a nice kitchen area, and very nice, clean bathrooms. It's very roomy. It's not in a great location but it's RIGHT on a U-Bahn stop so that wasn't a problem for us. — Sarah (2005-01-26)

This place has a super helpful and nice staff; a clean, handy little kitchen; and a good atmosphere! There was no smoking in the rooms that I noticed, so I wouldn't consider that a problem! It's a short walk from here to Alexanderplatz, and 30 seconds to the Metro station. I'd stay here again anytime! — Stina (2004-11-22)

I have been travelling Europe for over two years and I still rate this hostel as the best I've ever stayed in. It's centrally located with helpful and friendly staff, who will book your next hostel for you. I met lots of great people here, due to the relaxed atmosphere and the 24-hour access that allows you to enjoy the nightlife. It has VERY clean and comfortable dorms and bathrooms. — Rebecca (2004-10-18)

Beautiful and clean hostel in a great location, with incredibly helpful staff and great amenities. — Anonymous (2004-08-26)

This is, hands down, the best hostel in Europe. It's extremely clean, and in a great location. It has excellent staff, a kitchen, plus huge bedrooms with really nice furniture! They also organize walking tours which are a must-do. This place is the best value for the money you will find. Don't stay anywhere else in Berlin. — Janine (2004-08-11)

This place was excellent! I am only withholding that fifth star due to the absence of a free breakfast. — West (2004-07-27)

Helpful staff, clean facilities. The hostel also had a wireless LAN connection that could be used for a reasonable price. — Tom (2004-07-23)

If there's a better hostel in Europe, I'm going. Everything was excellent: it's really clean, there's a great atmosphere, good beds, and nearly immaculate bathrooms. Also, this place had easily the best staff we found in Europe. While we stayed here, at least six people had shifts, and they were all extremely nice, helpful and knowledgeable. It was totally fabulous. — Anonymous (2004-07-22)

Great hostel, but getting to my room was like finding my way through a labyrinth. — Derik De Baun (2004-03-17)
