The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Alberque La Candelaria is a beautiful, wonderful little hostel in a cute town. La Candelaria is the perfect choice if you're wanting a base to explore the area. From the bus station, you simply need to go left until you hit Calle 44 (the first main street), go left again, walk a bit, and the hostel is clearly labeled on the other side of the park.
This hostel has everything you need in the town of Valladolid: bike rentals, comfortable beds, friendly staff, free breakfast (cheap bread and coffee), a book exchange, lots of showers and bathrooms, and lockers in the rooms (locks provided). The kitchen is well stocked, but the freezer doesn't really work. They say there is hot water in the mornings, but apparently sometimes the hot water heater pilot goes out (but the weather can be quite hot, so it's not a big deal).
The common areas are great and have TV, VCR, and music available, making the hostel social as well as comfortable. While there is no internet in the hostel, there are internet places nearby, as well as a grocery store and cheap places to eat.
Because it's only a hop skip and a jump away from Cancun, Chichen Itza, the beautiful cenote Ztinup (30 minutes by bike), and Las Grutas de Balancanche, La Candelaria is a great base for a few days of exploring.

It is located in the north centre of the Yucatan Peninsula, only 30 minutes away from the monumental Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá.. It is a good base to rest after visiting the Mayan zone and its authentic cultural expressions. Valladolid and the region around it have some of the deepest and most spectacular natural wells (cenotes) of the Yucatan Peninsula.
An old, large colonial house, is located in Parque La Candelaria, 3 blocks from the bus-station and 2.5 blocks from the Central Park.

Home Away From Home The atmosphere created by the owners, a lovely couple, puts everyone in a mellow frame of mind. The outdoor covered kitchen has two 2 burner gas rings, a refrigerator, a grill, and more than adequate cooking utensils. Breakfast is free and consists of bread w/honey or jam, yoghurt w/fruit and fresh coffee. Courtyard w/hammocks is super. The location is on a plaza in the center of town close to everything you need.
Easy access by bus or collectivo to several cenotes, chichen itza, and the rio lagartos preserve. You just may want to hang out at the hostel and not go anywhere! — ouellette wilkinson , USA (2010-12-21)

Best of the best in Mexico Excellent!!! Hostel La Candelaria was a surprise. Located right on the Plaza Candelaria, close to everything, beautiful. The full breakfast really made the experience. Best of all though was the environment that the owners created that allowed a crowd of different cultures, languages and age groups relax and enjoy their stay together. Wi-Fi, good coffee, clean beds and showers, and just plain charming. The garden is amazing, done with love and care. — Edwin , USA (2010-05-20)

Paradise Loved everything they offered!!! Breakfast with fresh fruit/yoghurt. Excellent coffee, real bread, and honey. Once you lay down in the hammock area you don't want to leave anymore. It feels like home, loved the dogs and cats. So much fun and so beautiful. — Rosemary , UK (2009-12-27)

We absolutely loved it here! Wish we could stay for a longer period of time. The owners could not have any nicer or accommodating. I would recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone. — Kelly Robinson , USA (2009-11-08)

Great Hostel, absolutly highly recommanded They just opened the hostel again after a total remodeling. I loved this place so much. The garden is tropical and extremely well maintained. Breakfast was great (try their honey!) and the owners very friendly and helpful. I rented a bike to go to the Dzitnup cenote, which is amazing. Best hostel by far! — Michael , Germany (2009-10-01)

First rate. Very friendly family with a hostel with beautiful garden This is my favorite of all the hostels I have ever stayed at, and that numbers over fifty. — geoffrey aronson , UnitedStates (2008-05-24)

Clean and full of color, with an amazing garden, La Candelaria is the kind of place you fall in love with. The staff was genuinely nice, the location was great, and if you think it can't get any better just wait until you try the honey and the coffee served for breakfast. — vesela , Bulgaria (2007-03-29)

The most beautiful place I've ever stayed at. — Juliette Wilson (2005-04-06)
