Hostelz.com's Review
HI - Ciudad de Mexico - Hostel MJ Catedral has an amazing location! Located in the heart of the Centro Historico district, the hostel overlooks an area that has street performers and other events happening daily. The views from the balcony overlooking the churches and old buildings are phenomenal.

The Location

The hostel is within close walking distance to most of the downtown attractions and only around the corner from the National Palace. You literally cannot go wrong with the location of this hostel!

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms here are really cosy. Some of them have shared bathrooms adjoining to the bedrooms, while others have separate bathrooms. Each bed has an allocated locker that is large enough to fit all of your luggage, but you have to supply your own lock. The rooms are cleaned daily and are of a very good standard, as are the bathrooms. The showers also come equipped with free soap dispensers, so you don't need to have your own.

Common Spaces

There are multiple common spaces here in the hostel. In the foyer, there is a restaurant where people can hang out at tables; they serve the free breakfast here in the mornings as well. Upstairs on the fifth floor, there is a kitchen with an outdoor balcony that overlooks the church; the amazing view brings people to sit out here and chill out with drinks. It is a great place to socialize and meet people. They also have the bar on the sixth floor, which hosts different events put on by the hostel on different nights of the week. There is always something to do here and someone friendly to meet!

Summary

This is by far one of the best and most social hostels we have stayed at. The location, the people, the atmosphere, and everything about it make it the perfect place from which to explore Mexico City. The staff here are super friendly and most will speak both Spanish and English or will be able to find you someone who can help if they don't speak English. The only downfall is the noise from the area during the night, which can make it difficult to sleep at times. However, who wants to sleep when there is so much of this amazing city to explore? This is a highly recommended hostel!

5   Hostel with great location and amazing rooftop! I was traveling with a friend and we both liked the hostel a lot. The location is perfect, it's located right next to the cathedral and there is bus stop of the turisbus right in front of the hostel. The breakfast is really amazing! Chilaquiles, eggs, frijoles, toast, coffee, orange juice ... and the breakfast is on the rooftop, where you have an amazing view.  , age 20, Austria ()
5   Great hostel, perfect location, friendly staff, clean, and safe! This hostel is well run, with friendly staff, and in great location. Close to metro and walking distance to everything. Free breakfast on rooftop is a bonus, better than most hostels, or even hotels continental breakfast. The rooms are clean and safe. I've been 3 separate times and will return again. Disliked nothing.  , age 37, American ()
5   Couldn't have asked for more! I was a little nervous as it was my first time in Mexico. I shouldn't have been though as the staff at this hostel really were its best asset -- they made me feel at home from the very beginning. These folks know what backpackers are after -- free walking tours (shout out to the wonderful Fernando!), cleanliness, decent free breakfast (scrambled eggs, beans, toast, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee), very secure, amazing rooftop bar with cheap drinks (Carol's mojitos!!!) and great social atmosphere making it easy to meet like-minded travelers from all over the world. Location is equally ideal -- right near the metro and at least half a dozen main attractions. I ended up staying 1.5 weeks more than intended and wouldn't stay anywhere else when next I am in Mexico City.  , age 25, Australian ()
4   Highly recommend Close to the Metro, safe enough, easy to reach to tour spot, and the front desk staff are good at English and Spanish.  , China ()
4   Good hostel. We were impressed This place is good. We had a private room ensuite. It was clean, secure. Staff helpful. And fairly quiet. Would definitely recommend.  , British ()
5   BEST PLACE IN MEXICO CITY Out of the hostels in downtown, this is by far the best option. Unbeatable location, very clean and well managed. Amazing rooftop terrace. I keep coming back.  , NZ ()
2   Too Noisy for me! The Hostel is in a great location and offered free breakfast and dinner and free tour round the city in a deal and the rooms were clean but thats where the fun ends. The bar is open til 10 p.m. on ground floor with the noise from the music spreading all round the hostel. Then when this closes the music on the sixth floor terrace bar was so loud on first floor that we couldnt get to sleep and the bar is open until 2 a.m.! Always check about this before considering staying here. If you want to party, it is a great place. but if you want a good nights sleep, then avoid as youre unlikely to get to sleep!  , Argentinean ()
4  I stayed in Hostel Cathedral and I will never forget it. Everybody was so awesome and nice. It is truly charming and unforgettable. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is the bar closes quite early. (Other than that it was clean and very affordable.)  ()
