Description
Hostelz.com's Review
Nuova Locanda Belvedere in Venice is located in Mestre on the mainland of Venice in a quiet residential area. The building is welcoming and clean and you’ll find the reception downstairs whereas you’ll have to climb a flight of stairs to arrive at the actual hostel (no elevator). The building is in an area with lots of small restaurants and cafes and a supermarket is also within walking distance. A kiosk to buy your public transportation tickets, snacks, and magazines is just around the corner. The reception is staffed twenty-four hours, so there is no curfew to deal with.
The Location
The hostel is reasonably priced and the location is very convenient. It is much cheaper to stay on the mainland because everything in the city center is hopelessly overpriced. Venice Mestre railway station is within five minutes' walking distance and you will be provided with excellent directions to the hostel. There is also a bus which goes directly to the city center of Venice. If you need to get to the airport, you can use bus number 15 which also leaves close to the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are clean but very tiny; linen is provided. Due to the location in a residential area, you’ll have no problems falling asleep. A drawback is the abundance of mosquitoes, which seemingly cannot be driven out of the rooms. Bathroom facilities are basic and fairly clean, although sometimes they do not seem to bother refilling the toilet paper.
Common Spaces
There is a common room with several comfortable coaches -- this is the only place where you can access the free wireless internet. Unfortunately, it closes at 11 p.m. and the hostel staff are quite strict on enforcing this policy. There is also a terrace where you can hang out and a restaurant that belongs to the hostel. The staff are happy to help you with your travel plans. Free car parking is provided. The atmosphere is friendly and fun, you can hang out in the common room and there are lots of opportunities to meet other travelers.
Summary
This hostel is a good choice if you are on a budget and don't mind staying far from the city center.

Just a bunk, and barely anything more There are many rooms, but only 1 shower for everyone so you have to wait a long time. The 'common' room is smaller than the bedroom and features 2 couches, a vending machine, coffee machine, fridge & kettle. It's not social, or fun. Just dorms. Only positive about this place is that it is cheaper that anywhere else and about 5 mins walk from the train station to get into Venice. — Tesski, age 30, Australian (2013-05-09)
A real sh** hole! Place is really bad. Arrived late at night, took a cab from the train station(12e). I saw about 5 prostitutes on the way there. I was traveling on my own and knew I would not like to get back there from Venice by myself after 9pm. Killed two cockroaches in the room. No locker, doesn't feel safe in the overall. It was like I had to be really thankful for receiving one roll of toilet paper. My advice: unless you are really REALLY short on money: DO NOT BOOK A ROOM THERE!!! — H., BE/NL (2011-06-15)
Ok to stay I got onto Venice-Mestre, checked for a hostel on the internet, got to the website of Nuova Locanda Belvedere and could have booked a bed for 16€ a night. I should have done so, because when I walked to the reception and asked for a bed in person, the receptionist told me a bed is 20€. Asked why now 20 and not 16, like shown on the website, the woman looked at me and said that 16€ is not possible on the website, it is 20. Now, I wanted to stay for two nights, but after that conversation I decided to lay my head at this place for just one night, because who likes to be called a liar and get a bad look. And that lady can look annoyed at everyone asking a question. The place itself is worth staying to save money. Close to the Mestre station (1€ oneway to and from Venice) and it is clean. But don't expect much, Internet is 3€ an hour, wifi 2€. No kitchen, no coffee or else vending machines, no TV, nothing, just a place to sleep. — opb.travel, GER/CAN (2008-04-15)

Nothing more than somewhere to spend a night This hostel was clean and had internet and hot water, but essentially it was just somewhere to spend a night, with no character, no common area, no kitchen. It was a short bus ride into Venice, which was nice and easy, and we had no curfew, so if you just want somewhere easy and reliable, it's great. But if you're looking for somewhere with some character, choose a different hostel. — Suzie and Rachel, UK (2007-08-31)
It's ok. Hostel isn't far from Mestre Train station, which makes it relatively easy to get to Venice itself. The staff were english speaking, while not the most helpful I've ever encountered. The internet isn't cheap, but it's cheaper than anything you'll find in Venice. The hostel wasn't incredibly clean or nice, but it's a decent place to stay. No breakfast. No lockers. My room did have AC. — Garrett, USA (2007-07-03)

It was the best option for a group of four people. We needed to sleep as close as possible to the airport because our flight was very early. We paid 27 euros each in a four-bed private en suite room without breakfast. It wasn't cheap but it was clean and 15 minutes walking distance from the train station in Mestre. Most of the hostels in Venice are very old, far away (especially when you are carrying heavy backpacks), dirty and uncomfortable. If you arrive by bus at the station, you have to enter the train station to follow correctly the directions given by the hotel on the booking confirmation e-mail. There is no need anyway to sleep in Venice because it's very boring at night. — Marcelo (2005-10-22)
Thank goodness I was only here one night!! Venice may be only one train stop (7-10 minutes) away, but you don't feel like you're near the city. I concluded, after walking around a bit, that the hostel is in Venice's version of CHINATOWN. A suburb (which does indeed have an excellent pizza joint nearby) mixed with many, many Asian restaurants just on the other side of the train station. My room was clean, and the shower was strong, hot, and clean, but I had an "apartment" about 50 feet away from the main building. The main building looked like it was designed about 50 years ago and never well maintained after that. Internet was not cheap, either. — Christie (2005-08-06)

This hostel was excellent, but on weekends book in advance even in the off season. I was here in mid-November 2004. The dorm at the far end was charming and had it's own bathroom and porch with French doors — very nice. The Internet here isn't free and it isn't cheap, compared to some Internet points/phone shops. Ask one of the girls at the front desk how to get to the pizza shop down the street; it has outstanding food and it's CHEAP! It IS worth it to stay at this hostel; it is one of the cheapest places outside of Venice, yet Venice is only five or ten minutes away by either bus or train. I stayed at the cheapest place I could find in Venice, but it was difficult finding my way home at night through the maze of tiny dark streets. — Sean (2005-01-05)
