Ok to stay
I got onto Venice-Mestre, checked for a hostel on the internet, got to the website of Nuova Locanda Belvedere and could have booked a bed for 16€ a night. I should have done so, because when I walked to the reception and asked for a bed in person, the receptionist told me a bed is 20€. Asked why now 20 and not 16, like shown on the website, the woman looked at me and said that 16€ is not possible on the website, it is 20. Now, I wanted to stay for two nights, but after that conversation I decided to lay my head at this place for just one night, because who likes to be called a liar and get a bad look. And that lady can look annoyed at everyone asking a question. The place itself is worth staying to save money. Close to the Mestre station (1€ oneway to and from Venice) and it is clean. But don't expect much, Internet is 3€ an hour, wifi 2€. No kitchen, no coffee or else vending machines, no TV, nothing, just a place to sleep.

Nothing more than somewhere to spend a night
This hostel was clean and had internet and hot water, but essentially it was just somewhere to spend a night, with no character, no common area, no kitchen. It was a short bus ride into Venice, which was nice and easy, and we had no curfew, so if you just want somewhere easy and reliable, it's great. But if you're looking for somewhere with some character, choose a different hostel.

It's ok.
Hostel isn't far from Mestre Train station, which makes it relatively easy to get to Venice itself. The staff were english speaking, while not the most helpful I've ever encountered. The internet isn't cheap, but it's cheaper than anything you'll find in Venice. The hostel wasn't incredibly clean or nice, but it's a decent place to stay. No breakfast. No lockers. My room did have AC.

It was the best option for a group of four people. We needed to sleep as close as possible to the airport because our flight was very early. We paid 27 euros each in a four-bed private en suite room without breakfast. It wasn't cheap but it was clean and 15 minutes walking distance from the train station in Mestre. Most of the hostels in Venice are very old, far away (especially when you are carrying heavy backpacks), dirty and uncomfortable. If you arrive by bus at the station, you have to enter the train station to follow correctly the directions given by the hotel on the booking confirmation e-mail. There is no need anyway to sleep in Venice because it's very boring at night.

Thank goodness I was only here one night!! Venice may be only one train stop (7-10 minutes) away, but you don't feel like you're near the city. I concluded, after walking around a bit, that the hostel is in Venice's version of CHINATOWN. A suburb (which does indeed have an excellent pizza joint nearby) mixed with many, many Asian restaurants just on the other side of the train station. My room was clean, and the shower was strong, hot, and clean, but I had an "apartment" about 50 feet away from the main building. The main building looked like it was designed about 50 years ago and never well maintained after that. Internet was not cheap, either.

This hostel was excellent, but on weekends book in advance even in the off season. I was here in mid-November 2004. The dorm at the far end was charming and had it's own bathroom and porch with French doors — very nice. The Internet here isn't free and it isn't cheap, compared to some Internet points/phone shops. Ask one of the girls at the front desk how to get to the pizza shop down the street; it has outstanding food and it's CHEAP! It IS worth it to stay at this hostel; it is one of the cheapest places outside of Venice, yet Venice is only five or ten minutes away by either bus or train. I stayed at the cheapest place I could find in Venice, but it was difficult finding my way home at night through the maze of tiny dark streets.

We stayed here and it was great. The staff were more than helpful and were English-speaking. The room was extremely clean and with our own bathroom. Although it's not in the city centre, it only takes a 7-minute, 1 Euro bus ride to get there--and the stop is a very short walk. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who's on a budget who wants to visit Venice.

We have had and excellent room and a clean bathroom. It's not in the City Center, but with one Euro you're there (it takes 6/7 minutes by bus). If you have a fixed budget, this hotel is for you. This was the cheapest hotel in Venice, and the area is very convienient. There are nice, cheap restaurants in the area.

Three words: Don't stay here! The photos are totally misleading! Even dogs don't want to live here! It has bad facilities and a bad environment! There are no English-speaking staff! Does the owner know what the definition of "hotel" is? A nightmare!

DEFINITELY skip this hotel. They claimed our 10% deposit was not paid to the hotel, but to the online booking service so we would be charged the full room fee. Instead of all of the en suite rooms for four we booked far in advance for our group, a dorm room for twelve with a single-person bathroom was substituted. The owner's description and pictures are misleading--they're inaccurate and incomplete.

Skip this hostel. It isn't even in Venice. It is not a budget hotel because you have to pay about 10 Euros to get to and from Venice.

The hostel is quite far from the city of Venice but quite close to bus and train services. The girl at the desk spoke some English and gave us directions to a good pizzeria and the right buses to take. The neighbourhood indeed doesn't look very safe. But this is what you get when you stay in Mestre/ Marghera instead of Venice itself. We had a nice stay and I think this was worth our money. I couldn't find anything much cheaper than this, and I found it satisfactory. No more, but surely no less.

This hostel lied to us about lockers, and conveniently added future charges to our credit card. The neighborhood is horrible. If you like barred windows, and German shepherds with spiked collars, this may be the place for you.

This is the worst 'hotel' that we have ever stayed at. Not only are the pictures completely fabricated, but we paid for a private bath and TV, neither of which we recevied. The walls were paper thin, and the location was not convenient. If you're still having doubts: On the walk back to the hostel at 9:30 at night, we--a group of 4 college-aged girls--were sexually assualted by a man. Upon returning back at the hostel, the owner had nothing to say but "Good luck". It is our high recommendation that you do not stay at Hotel Belvedere.

It's far from the city center, but it's a good place to stay. Our room was clean and even had a bathroom/shower in it. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the heat wasn't on/windows were open and it was like 40 outside. Thankfully we had a heater in our room.
