Description

The Hostelz.com Review

Old City Hostel Istanbul is in a hundred-year-old building, recently renovated, in the heart of the Old City on the Golden Horn.

The Location

As it's one minute's walking distance from the Blue Line tram stop of Sultanhamet, Old City Hostel is in a prime location in Istanbul, just minutes' walking distance away from the tourist attractions of Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Grand Bazaar, and many more. Egyptian Spice Bazaar, Galata Tower, the Bosphorus boat tour, and New Mosque are just a few tram stops away. The hostel is just up the hill from the tram stop. There are no signs on the corners of the street, and it's not even really a street, more a pass through between the restaurants Cozy Pub and Pasha Restaurant. Walk between the restaurants and look to the lefthand side and you will see a sign hanging with the name.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are stuffed full with bunk beds with the ends are touching each other (they are a little on the short side for a tall person). Bunks all have thick, comfortable mattress and soft pillows. Reading lights and a plug are provided for each bed, but the lights are quite bright and light up the whole area. Rooms have heaters and air conditioning. Rooms are spread out over three floors and all face out to the restaurants below. They all have windows, but the noise from below echoes up to the rooms. Large metal lockers are in the rooms as well. Locks are not provided.

Each dorm room comes with attached bathroom with toilet and hot-water shower. Hooks are in the bathroom for hanging clothes and towels. Towels can be rented from the front desk. Hand soap is available in a dispenser and all bathrooms have a hair dryer. There is a common bathroom on the ground floor as well.

Common Spaces

Old City Hostel has plenty of places to spread out and relax. There is a restaurant and bar with seating set up outside in the evening and seating inside at the bar all day. There is an enclosed rooftop-terrace bar with tables and chairs where a simple breakfast with coffee or tea is served from 8 to 10 a.m. There is access through a window to an outside table and benches that have a view of the Bosphorus. Wi-Fi is available in all the rooms and terrace of the hostel.

Summary

Old City Hostel Istanbul is a quiet, relaxed, friendly hostel that is very convenient and close to the sights of the Old City.

The Old City Hostel is the best hostel in Istanbul
The Old City Hostel is the best hostel in Istanbul surrounded by the most important things to see. Just a few steps to a metro station to bring you to other important places in the city. Cosy roof terrace with a great view. Staff is very friendly and willing to give you advice in many ways

Description is Wrong
The Staff seems nice, and the room is ok ... however, Breakfast is NOT free (€3 per day). No Gym. Lobby is literally 1.3 Meters (4foot) tall. No Hot tub. No Parking. Airport Pickup is 60€ (each way). No Kitchen, No Laundry. Not Wheelchair Accessible. 1 Small TV in the entire Building. Again, the staff seems nice. But there are 0 facilities ... and no entertainment as described.

Great staff! Great location!
The staff was very helpful in booking tours and suggesting different things to do. The location was very good. On the metro line and near all of the sights in the old city.

Amazing stay!
Staff are incredibly kind and helpful. Always trying to make sure your stay is going well. Clean rooms with lockers if you need them. Perfect location -- you can walk to all the hot spots, and the tram is nearby if you want to head a little further. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Istanbul!

Solid hostel
The staff was amazingly friendly. The rooms were comfortable and appropriately priced. The location can't be beat -- a ten minute walk to the grand bazaar, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, the Hagya Sofya. Free Turkish tea at all hours of the day! I would definitely recommend this hostel.
