The Hostelz.com Review
6 Small Rooms is a real backpacker hostel -- cozy, clean, and run by an Australian lady who knows what travel-tired bones need. It's a place to relax and chill out in a big, pulsating city. The only pain is that there is no elevator and carrying your backpack up to the top makes you sweat, but it is worth it. Welcomed by most friendly staff and owner, all information you will need during your stay is provided and the service is excellent.

Location

Located on the fourth floor of a typical Neapolitan house just off Via Toledo, 6 Small Rooms hostel is reachable by bus or metro from Naples Garibaldi train station and a ten-minute walk from the main port. On a small side street, the hostel is in walking distance to all sights of Naples and beside the Spanish Quarter of Naples. Still, be careful when walking at night -- after all, you are in Naples!

Rooms and Bathrooms

All dorms come with single beds and the three common bathrooms are clean. There is one real private room on the second floor that has a bathroom, but don't expect too much for the cheap price. The other private room is a two- to four-bed dorm. Dorms are bright with big windows, big lockers are in the dorms, and bed sheets are included. Some dorms have a couple of fold-up beds which come a couple of Euro cheaper.

Common Spaces

The center of the hostel is the common room with two internet computers and Wi-Fi (both free); a couch and chairs; TV and a good selection of DVDs; and Simon, the hostel's cute cat, happy to be pet by international guests. The fully equipped kitchen is a delight for all who like to cook their own meals after strolling around Naples' food markets or buying groceries in the nearby supermarkets. The atmosphere at 6 Small Rooms makes it easy to meet fellow travelers and the strict midnight shut-down of the common areas ensure a quiet night's sleep. Keys for guests who like to explore Naples at night are handed out at the reception and the staff explains where cheap meals and good pizzas can be found.

Summary

This a great hostel with all a traveler needs (just no washing machine) and a perfect place to hang out and explore Naples, Pompei, and the Amalfi Coast, run by an Australian who knows the hostel business well.

Nice place to stay
I stayed there for three nights and had a very good time there. The staff is really very friendly and helpful, and the place is large, clean, and despite its location in the centre of Naples, absolutely quiet at night. What I wanted to say, this hostel is very cool, and if I come back to Naples sometimes in the future, I'll definitely stay there.

Really friendly hostel
i stayed here in june and had a great time. The staff are really friendly and helpful and tell you where the best places are for food, ice cream, and drink. The hostel itself is ideally located and feels like home!

very bad experience with booking a double room here. it was claustrophobic, smelly, and overpriced. we had to look for another place to stay after one night and have found something far better, just around the corner. we have also never received a receipt for what we paid.

Great place. While some hostels suffer from "school rules" everywhere telling you what is verboten, this place just tells you the toilet brush loves you and wants to be used by you. The beds seemed comfy, although after a long hot afternoon wandering among the ruins of Pompei, I'd probably have slept through World War III. Breakfast was some cereal, industrial strength coffee, and lots and lots of toast. Oh, and the rooms are quite large.

The hostel is nice. It's not difficult to find if you follow the directions on the site. The bathrooms could be nicer but that's no big deal. The atmosphere is great and I met an awesome group of people who I then continued to travel with for a week. The beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious and clean. There was an American guy working there with whom a lot of the guests had problems when I was there. The kitchen is great. Naples is an amazing city, full of energy. It has better fashions than Rome, Milan and Florence. Great nightlife and the people are friendly, helpful and warm. A must if you are in Italy.

After two exhausting weeks of city hopping all over Italy, my friend and I found sanctuary in the relaxing atmosphere of 6 Small Rooms. I got to know so many great people from all over the world. The location is great, you can walk almost anywhere from the front door, and it's right in the middle of the "Naples Night Life." The staff, Scott and Gerrad, are two of the most amazing, generous, understanding people you will ever meet. If we had known all the fun that was in store for us in Naples we would have spent our entire vacation there. THANKS GUYS!! I would recommend this "home away from home" to anybody.

I visited in July and the staff took me in when I couldn't find a room anywhere else. I want to say thanks to Joe, David and Courtney . . . wherever you guys are! I had the best time and I'll never forget the Santana concert we all went to! If you're going to stay at 6 Small Rooms my tip is don't forget that "other people live there, too"!

One of the best hostels I stayed at. Although they seem to hire travelers that ran out of money to work as staff, somehow these guys seem to make it work and even give you loads of valuable advice on Naples, at least when I was there. The place is cozy and charming, on the top floor of a typical Neapolitan building overlooking a narrow street with laundry hanging from every balcony. There is a living room and a kitchen, almost like in someone's apartment. They don't have bunks, just regular beds, which I prefer. Breakfast is included, and at 18 euros it's not as overpriced as hostels in Rome. And there is also a cat on the premises. I had a very pleasant stay here.

Very friendly and affordable. A bit confusing to find at first, but it's in a good location. The staff are young and changes often, but they do their best to help you out and make you feel comfortable. They encourage a social atmosphere without pressure. There are very good, fresh croissants, coffee, and tea for breakfast. Recommended!

I stayed here with a friend in May 2003. We had the best time ever in this hostel. The staff, two great Aussies named Darren and Noel, were fantastic! We all ate and drank together. I really felt at home. It's like a little apartment.

I just returned to the states after visiting Europe for two weeks. This was my favorite hostel. When I visited there everything was very clean. The staff, Rachel and another curly-haired girl, are very friendly and helpful. This hostel is HUGE. There is plenty of room in the bedrooms and the kitchen is simply wonderful. The location of the hostel is excellent. If you're looking for cheap pizza, go across the street from the plaza (right down the alley from the hostel). You can get pizza for 2 euros. Be careful, though. They don't like tourists.

All together we stayed at 6 Small Rooms for four nights. We loved Naples and this hostel. The staff were awesome. It was quite a hike to the top floor and we arrived earlier than our reservation. Rachel made room for us and then the next night moved us into a private room. The kitchen was large and a great hangout place. The TV/living room was also like being at home. We appreciated this hostel as a place to rev up before hitting the hectic streets of Naples — which are sheer madness. We loved it!

I stayed there a while back; it was very friendly and laid-back. The showers were as all Italian showers are--uncomfortable! I enjoyed the family feel in the place (I was there just before Christmas). They really made an effort to make you feel involved, and they had heaps of information on Naples. The gelateria (ice cream parlor) up the road is probably the best in the city, as well!

I had a great time here. The showers suck and the staff can be disorganised. But it's a great place to meet people.

Not the cleanest of hostels, but it is a really cosy place. The staff are helpful and friendly, and make an effort to get everyone together at night for games or drinks. The beds (which are not bunk beds) are comfortable, and the kitchen's well-equipped. We really did enjoy ourselves during our stay here.
