The Hostelz.com Review
Meeting Point is a great little hostel, and staying here feels like staying in somebody's apartment. It's a nice change from some of the larger hostels that feel like institutions, although the quality of your stay is therefore highly dependent on who else is staying here.
The Location
The hostel is located on a fairly busy street with a grocery store and assorted kiosks nearby, as well as a variety of restaurants and a couple of banks. There are a number of trolleybus and bus lines that run to the city centre from nearly right outside the hostel, and the main street is right around the corner. It is, however, located a distance from the railway station, and although it is quickly reached by taxi or public transit, it is too far to walk. The hostel can arrange for a taxi to meet guests at the station, although this is an added cost that is paid directly to the driver.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are two dorm rooms, one of which is located in what would be the apartment's living room. The hostel is furnished with carpets on the walls and is quite welcoming. The beds are comfortable and clean. There is one decent-sized bathroom with a shower/bathtub, sink, toilet, and washing machine. Over the sink is a shelf for toothbrushes, toothpaste, and the like, and the shower has a place for soaps and shampoo. Because this hostel is in a former apartment, there are no door locks or lockers for luggage, although the apartment itself is secure behind two doors. For those guests staying in the "living room," privacy could become an issue, as guests staying in the other room have to pass through this area to reach their own beds.
Common Spaces
As it the hostel is essentially an apartment, it is like one big common space. There is a small kitchen with stove, oven, table and chairs, and a large fridge. The hostel supplies free tea and coffee, as well as milk and cereal for the morning. There is a television set in the "living room," and a computer with free internet access in the other sleeping room. The atmosphere in the hostel is dependent on the other travelers, if there are any (when we were here, there were no other travelers, and so it was like renting an apartment for the price of a dorm room). There is also a large shelving unit in the "living room" filled with English-language books, both fiction and nonfiction.
Summary
This is slightly different but wonderful little hostel located not too far from the centre of town. Staying here is like staying in an average Russian apartment, which can be a welcome change after other hostels. The hostel manager is fun and friendly, and makes the guests feel very welcome.
