The Hostelz.com Review
Loki del Mar in Mancora is very much a resort. You could quite happily spend days there and never leave the property. It´s right on the beach and has a pool, good restaurant/bar, clean and spacious dorms, and a Party (with capital P) atmosphere.
The Location
The hostel is towards the southern end of the town, you can´t miss it from the road -- it´s a white wall with the name painted on! Most of the buses stop further north so you can just walk down the main road or grab a moto-taxi. It has steps leading right onto the beach, although it is behind a line of restaurants. The only problem with the location is the night club on the beach right in front of the hostel. The hostel itself is not very quiet but the annoying thing about the nightclub is that it blasts music the whole night, despite the fact that there is never anyone inside it!
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are a few options about dorms and privates. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms and showers. They are all clean and spacious and have great lockers (with power points) in which to lock your stuff. The only annoying thing is that there is only one key per room, so sometimes you may get locked out. The rooms all have balconies overlooking the pool and towards the sea, but that also means you get the bar noise (and annoying night club) if you are in bed early -- sometimes even if it´s not early.
Common Spaces
The hostel has great facilities! Most of the time you will spend around the pool and the open-planned bar area, with a pool table and table tennis. Breakfast is included (jam and rolls) and the restaurant serves delicious meals at very reasonable prices throughout the day. There are computers available for internet access, a small book exchange, and a movie room with a small collections of DVDs. If you would rather get away from everyone there are also plenty of hammocks to spend a lazy afternoon in. The staff are great fun and organise activities everyday including themed parties; pool, volleyball, and table tennis competitions; and numerous other fun stuff. There is also a surf school where you can get lessons or rent equipment if you want to hit the waves.
Summary
It´s very much a party hostel with a fun and loud atmosphere. There's lots to do within the hostel and it has more of a resort feel than most hostels. The rooms are comfortable and clean and you could very easily stay for a long time if that kind of vibe appeals to you.
