Description
Bunkdown Lodge Backpackers is a 1903 kauri villa with modern annex providing clean, quiet, homestyle accommodation for 22-24 guests with 2 common rooms, 2 kitchens, bath, piano, guitars and DVDs.
We have information booklets and photo albums on local sights and activities including the Poor Knights Islands. We offer free tea and coffee, courtesy pick ups from the buses and is a pick up point for Dive Tutukaka. A Barbecue is available and fresh herbs may be picked from the garden by the aviary.
Only a 10-15 min walk to the city centre amenities our hostel is the perfect place to relax in comfort.
We are on the main highway, 500m North of the Information Centre tucked down a right of way with off road parking. Hosts, Noell & Peter and Sage (our multi lingual golden retriever).

The most dirtiest Hostel! The first impression was quite in order. Peter, the owner showed me the hostel. He also explained to me the most about Whangarei. In the hostel there is anything, but no WiFi. In the hostel you live with the elderly couple under one roof. In my opinion they can not clean the Hostel alone. It was very dirty. Everywhere, there were dog hairs, even in my bed. In the bathroom scared me a roach. And the crazy is that you must take off your shoes in the hostel. I'm lucky to have flip flops. I hope they finally make an accommodation for free for cleaners. — Anonymous! , German (2011-10-17) Very rude hosts Called to ask about accommodation and was meet with a rude host who said if I wasnt from overseas we couldnt stay. Very disappointed and this sort of reaction especially since we are not rough or dishonest -- in fact we always leave any places we gave stayed immaculate and tidy!
