The Hostelz.com Review
When thinking of Centerpoint Guest House, think of military cuisine -- it's brown and there's lots of it. It's a very basic and very cheap place -- ultimately not so bad and reasonably clean. The staff are friendly enough as well. Keep in mind that this is a good place for early risers. The noise from the street below and the Muslim mosque belching out morning prayers at 4:40 serves as a good alarm clock in the morning. The hostel locks at night as well, though there is a guy sleeping right at the entrance who can let you in.
The Location
The location is more or less perfect. It is right at the popular Sudder street, and a close walk to a number of rail booking agencies (always book ahead), restaurants, internet, the Indian Museum, and the New Market area. There are prepaid taxis from the airport here.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dormitory is a massive area with three conjoining rooms and about four dozen beds. They are very open and there are plenty of windows and fans on the ceiling providing somewhat adequate relief from the heat. There is also a pleasant lack of bedbugs. The toilets are decent enough if you are not too picky. They are somewhat clean and located just outside the dormitories, as are the showers, which are of equal glamor. Hot water is available. There are also single and double rooms available here.
Common Spaces
This is a fairly quiet hostel. There is really only one common area and this is just outside the dormitories in the open air, right between the toilets and the showers.
Summary
This is a decent enough place to stay if you are not looking to party and are going to bed early and waking up early. It's very basic but for the price, how can you go wrong? We would stay here again.
