The Hostelz.com Review
Blue House is set in a large house in a touristy, central area in Quito. It has nice rooms, fairly good facilities, friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, and it's clean and safe.
The Location
The hostel is located in a nice area in the New Town in Quito. The surrounding area has lots of other hotels/hostels, lots of restaurants and bars, travel agencies, internet cafes, bookshops, and some smaller shops. There have been a couple of incidents with people being mugged and robbed in the surrounding streets at night, so it´s best not to wander around alone but there are usually quite a few people in the streets.
If you work out the Quito bus schedule, the hostel is very convenient and you can easily access all the sights in the city. The Ecovia bus line has a stop only a few blocks away and the metrobus and trolebus stops are about a fifteen-minute walk along Colon Street. The cheapest way to get to the hostel from the airport and bus terminals would be to catch one of these lines to a stop near the hostel and then get a taxi to the door.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are nice and not to cramped and the beds are comfortable. There are a number of different sized (and priced) dorms and each bed has a large locker to keep your stuff in. There are also private rooms. The bathrooms are clean and the showers are hot although the pressure isn´t great.
Common Spaces
Blue House has two lounges (one with a TV) and an outside area to relax. There is one computer with internet access, although it is very slow. The kitchen is available for guest use and seems to be reasonably equipped. Breakfast is included in the rates and involves toast and jam, a choice of cereal, and tea/coffee -- a great change from scrambled eggs if you`ve been traveling for a while.

It´s a good place to stay and very popular. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable, and the place is clean and safe and in a great location.

Friendly, very good location in Mariscal The folks here are super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not exciting -- cereal, and you wash up -- but it's a great location. My only complaint is that the lighting in the double en-suite was SO DIM we couldn't see in the mirror at night. But very clean and secure. — Denise , USA (2011-03-14)
