Palmeiras B&B & Backpackers, the peaceful and quiet backpackers, is just a stone's throw away from the beautiful beaches of Vilanculos, with only a dirt road separating the backpackers from the ocean.
Finding this backpackers can be a bit tricky, as roads are not clearly marked and signposts are a minimum. Be sure to print out a map of this small town with the location of the backpackers before you go and this will be of great help. There is not much in the way of public transport in Vilanculos, and this backpacker is not near the bus stop or "chapa" (mini bus) route. But it's only about twenty minutes' walk from the main road in town. If you do rent a vehicle -- 4x4 preferably -- it's easy to drive there. The general neighborhood seems ok, but walking at night and/or during the day with valuables and lots of money on you seems risky, even in groups.
The dorms have a very clean feel to them. There are two dorms with three double beds per dorm. Each bed also has its own mosquito net. The dorms have an en-suite bathroom and linen and bath towels are provided. The dorms open up with glass doors to a beautiful sea view. These backpackers also have double en-suite rooms, and the price includes breakfast.
The common areas are well equipped. The kitchen has enough basic utensils for cooking. The fridge and other storage areas are in a room that locks, this is great for security. The "boma" area is a big open area with a grass roof, with a big dining table and a few sofas. This outdoor dining/sitting area also has BBQ facilities. There is no bar or restaurant on-site.
This is not the usual type of backpackers. It is quiet, peaceful, and the atmosphere is subdued. Its location within a beautiful garden is peaceful and it has an all round clean feel to it. There are a few local bars in the area.
