Complexo Alemanha/Vilanculos Backpackers has cute little buildings that make up the double rooms. It is situated on the hill overlooking the beach area of Vilanculos. It was totally destroyed in a cyclone in 2007, so the whole complex is fairly new.
It is in the central part of Vilanculos, and there is a big sign on the main road, so its easy to find. The neigbourhood seems ok, but you'd rather not take chances in walking at night or with a lot of valuables.
There are two dorms with ten beds each, and seven separate double rooms. None are ensuite -- all have shared facilities for rooms and dorms. All beds have mosquito nets, and the rooms and dorms are clean. The toilets and showers are basic, but it seems a bit rundown, especially compared to the rest of the backpackers, but it's adequate.
There is a small kitchen with some basic utensils, but there is a huge restaurant and bar on the premises. This is a very lively place with a pool table and a big screen TV. Both locals and visitors hang out here and it's a great place to meet people.
The German owner keeps everything well maintained. He is friendly and helpful. This is a fun place, with a great view of the ocean and close proximity to town.
