The Hostelz.com Review
Musas Residence is a large, energetic, and youthful hostel located in the middle of all of Madrid's action. It's thankfully tucked away on a little side street so as to avoid a lot of unwanted noise and commotion.
The Location
It's easy to get to -- no matter where you're coming from in Madrid, just find your way to Metro Line 1 (the light-blue line) and head towards the Tirso de Molina stop. Once you arrive, hop off the metro and make your way out onto the street. You'll pop out on the Tirso de Molina Plaza. From there, you want to find Calle (Street) Jesus y Maria which runs right into the plaza. Walk down this road for about a hundred meters and you will find Las Musas Residence on your right-hand side. This convenient location (a minute from a metro stop) allows you to easily travel Madrid during your stay at Las Musas.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are large open spaces with a lot of beds -- don't expect much privacy if you book a dorm room, especially since the dorms can have up to fourteen beds in one room. However, there are two bathrooms with toilets and showers in those large rooms. The bathrooms are well-kept and cleaned daily. The hostel also provides lockers next to each bed, but keep in mind that locks are not provided.
Common Spaces
You will find a large dining/lounge area on the third floor near the check-in desk. Feel free to take your laptop up there and surf the web on their free Wi-Fi. This is also the area where breakfast is served each morning. On the second floor, you will find a large lounge area with couches, desktop computers, and Wi-Fi access. These large, modern, open common spaces really give backpackers the opportunity to meet one another if their hearts desire. The kitchen is not available for use. Also, don't worry about loud, noisy nights -- that shouldn't be a problem at Musas Residence, although nightlife is very accessible from this hostel.
Summary
If you're looking for a large hostel that doesn't make your personal space feel cramped, Musas Residence may be what you're looking for. It's in a great location and the staff are young and friendly. But keep in mind that you may feel that privacy is limited.
