The Hostelz.com Review
Getting to Sunrock would be difficult to do on your own. Luckily, they have a van, and will meet you at the dock provided you tell them when you are arriving. The hostel is located on Pelekas beach, across the island about fifteen minutes from Corfu town.

Simply put, Sunrock is one of the nicest hostels we have ever stayed at. We went in early April, so it was still low season, and there were a half-dozen guests at most, plus the student workers. They were still getting cleaned up and ready for the summer, so facilities during high-season might improve on what we experienced. Sunrock is a good-sized hostel, and can hold close to two hundred people at maximum capacity. However, far from the typical bed factory, it is run by a beautiful Greek family -- all of whom are committed to making a personal impact on your stay.

In terms of facilities, Sunrock is average. The rooms are clean, but not spotless. The showers consist of a drain and a shower hose, and the hot water can be spotty at times. There is a well-stocked bar, and though there is no public kitchen, home-cooked meals are available for a nominal fee at any time during the day. There is one computer with internet access, but it is dial-up, and long-distance, so you will pay a bit. They have a small shop, which stocks beach neccessities and things you might have left at home.

Because Sunrock is so far from town, they really go out of their way to make their offerings comprehensive. The cook you two meals a day for free, and these are excellent. They also offer regular rides into town, so you can go shopping or sightseeing. The advantage of being remote is that they have incredible surroundings, and a beach that is shared among a small number of establishments. The view off the sundeck is incredible.

What really makes Sunrock stand out is the atmosphere. The host family is extraordinarily friendly, and you will fall in love with them. Don't let Magda's brusque exterior fool you; she's a big softie. You'll get to know your fellow occupants over family-style dinners, and jam sessions on the sundeck. Really, Sunrock is less of a hostel, and more of a low-budget resort with a lot more intimacy than most five-star resorts. It seems that it's not unusual for someone to go there intending to stay a few days, and end up staying a few weeks or even months. In short, if you're going to Corfu, don't miss this place.

Unbelievable
Sunrock is one of the most beautiful hostels i have visited in Europe. Pleasantly surprised, after expecting just a short stay at this underrated hostel, i had to stay longer. What first hits you are the spectacular views and impressive sunsets, the best I've seen so far on my travels. Arriving late evening, i was thrilled to make dinner time. The food was like eating at a restaurant, not an 18 Euro a night hostel. I was glad to get some proper home cooked food. I inquired about the quality of food, and was pleasantly surprised to hear a lot of the meat and veg was grown on their own farm. Also i noticed a vegetarian option was always available. So my room. i was opting for the cheapest room, which was a shared dorm room, with a shared bathroom. The room was basic and clean, and our bathroom was cleaned daily. Staff were always happy to help. Breakfast had such a range, to what i was expecting. Two cooked meals for 18 Euro was great, although probably not for my dress size! Lunch was also available. Airport transfers were quick and free and saved me lugging my pack onto a hot, sweaty bus. A small mini market in the hostel itself caters for most conveniences. A path to the beach takes you to the impressive scenery in just a couple of minutes. But the main thing i noticed about this hostel was the friendliness of the owners. A real Greek place, (but don't worry English is widely spoken, especially by most of the staff). They made my stay memorable, and i would go back just to have a beer with them.

My end of holiday review would be that this place is a great place to go and I can see why people end up staying longer than they'd planned! However, my first day or two I wondered whether to move elsewhere. it all depends what room you have and what season you go. I had a small dorm room to myself with no view and a bit box like, still, it was very cheap for a room so can't complain! The shared bathroom was filthy, it wasn't cleaned all week! I decided to pay more and move to an en-suite room -- what a good choice. I had a lovely room with sea view, shared balcony, and a clean bathroom. I was looking forwards to the Greek parties and karaoke nights and water sports but it was off season so there was none of that, but there were lovely meals and managed to find things to do, plus the beach is gorgeous! Drink prices aren't displayed and go on a tab -- they really could do with putting up a price list, because it surprised some people how much they'd spent. Minibus was really useful to get to Corfu town as they are often going. After being unsure at first I was sad my week had come to an end. It's a great place to go and relax.

My time at Sunrock was awesome! If I hadn't already booked my flight home before Christmas I would have been asking for a job there. Everyone was super friendly — it was just like one big family, which anyone would fit right into. There was always music playing, and always someone cool around to chat to or do something with. I was very impressed with the low prices, the transport to and from the port, the location right on the beach, and the fact that breakfast ran until 1 p.m. It's no 5 star hotel but the facilities were more than adequate. It's the best hostel-type accommodation I've ever stayed in. I would strongly recommend the hostel to anyone looking for a fantastically fun holiday on the beach, and would likewise recommend hiring a scooter for a day and checking out the rest of the island. And if that's not enough to encourage you to come, let me just mention the two hot shot guys who do the reservations and bar work!!!

My friend and I stopped in Corfu for one night on our way to the mainland, which turned into 10 nights at Sunrock, then another 10 nights on our way back. After some travelling I returned for another 8 months to work, which turned into another 8 months the year after, and another 8 months the year after that!!! I dream about this place on a regular basis, and I can not put into words how much I miss it, and how much I want to go back. One day!! Mada, Spiros, Jia-Jia, Alex, Effie, Dora, Ted, and everyone else, I will be back!!! The food, the family, the atmosphere, the scenery, and the friends I made are all memories that I will cherish for life!!! The family I love like my own and I miss them terribly. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I have recommended this place to NUMEROUS people!! Pelekas Beach is THE most beautiful place in ALL of Europe!!! GO!!! You will gain memories that you will not soon forget!!! If anything, you will have a guaranteed fun time!!!

This is the best hostel I've been so far!!! I'm sorry for those Italians. I just came from Italy with my boyfriend and we've been so disappointed. We had to stay in hostels in Rome, Venice and Brindisi. None of the hostels we stayed in Italy were even close to Sunrock! The food and the hospitality are great. The people I've met were from everywhere and we all felt the same! I definitely recommend this place to backpackers but not to Italians, with all my respect!

After Istanbul and Athens, we were looking for some fun beach time. We found it at Sunrock. We stayed for one week and found it hard to go home. I want to thank Mada for the wonderful food and hospitality — you truly made our stay! We had a great time in the bar with Paul and George, and the beach was just what we were looking for...sun (oh yes!) sand and clean water. We'll be back.... For sure! For sure!

After reading the reviews on Sunrock resort, I really thought it was "heaven on earth", but it was definitely not! We had booked a double room with sea-view and, when we arrived, we had to walk up the mountain with our heavy luggage to reach a room with an olive tree view. The "shortcut" to the room that Magdalene kindly showed us was as long as the direct route, just a little more dangerous. Talking about the room, it was quite dirty when we arrived and the only thing we had at our disposal to clean it was an old, dirty broom, not very useful to clean the bathroom after a shower, so we had to buy a rag at the nearest mini-market. Moreover, almost all the light bulbs were broken and the only one that worked was so weak that at 7 p.m. you could hardly read! Oh, and the bathroom door didn't close. And what about the water? As we lived up a hill, there was a pump that took water to our room, but this pump didn't really work and the result was that the water stopped about 3-4 times (for 10-20 seconds) during every 10-minute shower...when we were lucky. It also happened two times (in our 7-day stay) that the electricity went down, leaving us without water and light, so that one of us had to get dressed and walk down to the reception to complain about that until the electricity came back. Talking about the meals, breakfast was very good and generous, although the tables were often dirty. Dinner, instead, was composed of a tiny Greek salad (most of the time without Greek capsicum and with just one olive) and a main course, which most of the times wasn't really a typical Greek dish. It was like cold overcooked pastina with simmenthal or spaghetti with acid sauce! Regarding the staff, Magdalene didn't show up a lot. The last day we kept asking her when we had to pay and she kept saying "after dinner," but, after dinner, when we looked for her, the bartender told us she was sleeping!!! As we were leaving at 5 a.m. we sent him down to wake her up. We tried to pay her with our credit cards (which, looking at the labels on the door, should have been accepted) but she didn't accept them, so we had to collect all the cash we had left and pay. After we gave her all the money in cash, she didn't even try to smile at us!! As the hostel was very isolated from Corfu's nightlife, the Vrachos bar was the only place to go; fortunately the Vrachos bar-staff (Paul, John and Alex) were very nice, friendly and available to us and almost every night we played funny games; moreover, the beer cost just 2 euros!! Thanks to Paul, John and Alex we really had fun at Sunrock, but I wouldn't really recommend this place.

Wow! We arrived around 9 a.m. after the owner gave us a free lift in his shuttle bus from our ferry. I was really surprised at how green Corfu is. We had originally booked a double room but when we arrived we were shown the suite that Sunrock has and decided to take it. The owner told us that the suite had been vacated only that morning by a couple that decided to run off without paying. So, with thanks to them we enjoyed the sea view, the balcony and the air-conditioning. I can honestly say that we didn't experience any problems with the air conditioning and electric shocks from the shower. The food was excellent and my girlfriend, who is a vegetarian, was very pleased. Madalena asked her most days what she would like to have for dinner! As a meat eater myself, I've never tasted better Greek food than at Sunrock! The bar and Karaoke were fun and the parties were great! We will always remember "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and "Incoming"! The chill atmosphere early evening was very welcoming, too. In all, we didn't experience much noise from the bar and I noticed the staff were careful about noise, etc. Sunrock! Thanks for a great time, with great food, great views and with great people! We will be back!!!

SUNROCK-Vrachos is one of those places that once you have been there, you will find your daydreams take you back there. A truly wonderful experience, a holiday like no other. It's your choice to either relax or party through the night. But when I say party, it's not the typical crazy party, but a party overlooking the beginning of the ocean views to die for, sunsets you thought only existed in dreams, homemade Greek dishes that make your mouth water, music that captures the moment, and celebrating with new friends that will last a lifetime. It's definitely a place to visit, and you will surprised to find yourself wanting to stay longer — everyone does!! Enjoy.

We arrived here mid-afternoon after it took two hours to actually find the place! It was hard to find and the "free parking" referred to one space that was occupied by 3 mopeds. The room, at 70 Euros a night, had a wonderful view, but the sitting on the balcony that night watching the sun go down, I could feel something on my head. Yes, it was cigarette ash and the stubs that people were throwing over as there was a sun deck directly above. So I decided to take a shower and that was cut short once I felt a sharp electric current hit me. Also, the pressure in the taps were terrible (I'm talking about drips)...Then came the evening. When I pre-booked my room, it said breakfasts and dinners were included. But I was told that although I had access to the breakfast, I had only ONE choice for dinner. This was terrible, and so I decided to go for a meal in Corfu town. Only to discover that when I had got back, there were cigarette stubs all over the balcony (by the way, the balcony was nothing special. It was short and had rusty railings). I decided to talk to the owner the next morning about everything, until a) I discovered ants b) the air conditioning didn't work resulting in a very warm and stuffy room and c)a karaoke started and lasted until 3am. Then the noise that followed continued to around 7am. By 8am, I had packed and was ready to leave. I was extremely disappointed. It was a hostel at the end of the day, and you don't expect anything special, but when you can't go onto your balcony because of cigarettes falling on top of you and you get electric currents coming through the shower, then you realise something needs to be done. I checked into the Corfu Palace that lunch time, and for only 50 Euros a night more, it was definatly well worth it. I didn't pay for my nights stay at Sunrock, and plan to never go back there. I do not recommend this hostel to anyone, no matter how cheap they offer.

This place was the highlight of our trip to Greece in May 2005. We stayed for four nights and it was pleasurable. My best wishes to Paul and Jorgos — it was a great time, thank you!

In 1994 nearing the end of a two-month backpacking trip across Europe, I took the ferry from Brindisi and Spiros was at the dock. I had no plan but he said if I didn't like what I saw he would take me to another hostel. Well, my three-day intended stay turned into eight and I had the crowning experience of my trip. Staff were pleasant and helpful to a fault. The views were gorgeous and the fellow travelers were great. Now, eleven years later I am taking my wife to see what I have been talking about all these years.

I planned to stay on Corfu for two days, found Sunrock, and ended up staying for ten days. There is nothing better than waking up at noon to the sound of the waves on the beach, having a big breakfast, heading down to the beach for a swim and a nap, eating a great dinner with new friends, partying until dawn, and then doing it all over again. It was truly awesome.

This place was the highlight of our trip to Europe. Spiros and Magdalina were perfect hosts. We had beautiful Greek meals and Mythos beer from the bar. The hostel had comfy rooms to watch the beautiful sunset from. We intended to stay for three days but stayed for seven. We will not forget this wonderful place.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 15 nights and loved it. It was the perfect ending to our 7 month backpacking trip around Europe.
