The Hostelz.com Review
Kaissara Hostel is located in the small fishing village of Trindade, near Paraty. Within touching distance of the Serra da Bocaina National Park, it is both great for hiking in rain forests and for visiting one of the seven beautiful beaches in this village.
The Location
Kaissara is easy enough to find, but will require arriving in Paraty first, and then getting another bus to Trindade. There are many buses from both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to Paraty, and the Paraty-Trindade line runs every hour so it is no problem at all to reach Trindade. Once arriving in the village, it is only a five-minute walk to the hostel. There are directions on the hostel website, but the village is so small that asking anyone for Kaissara, George (the owner), gringo, or just hostel will most likely lead you to the door.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are three dormitories in the hostel, each with four to ten beds, as well as a number of private rooms. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms and are average in size. They could never be called spacious but then Kaissara is not a hostel where you will want to spend much time in your room, especially with all the beaches and rain forest at your disposal.
Common Spaces
As well as a shared kitchen there is a TV area with bean bags and balcony outside with further seats and hammocks. Generally speaking it's not a huge amount of space but allows for at least three or four groups of people to play different games/have conversations, as well as making it a great area to meet everyone else at the hostel.
Summary
Kaissara is in a really beautiful location and is a great place for meeting other travelers. There are so many things to do -- visit waterfalls, rock jump, surf, play games, drink plenty of local cachaca and, of course, spend quality time on some of the best beaches in Brazil -- that staying for just a couple of days will probably not be enough. Anyone thinking of visiting should clear quite a few days in their calendar -- you will not want to leave after just one or two nights. Plus, for anyone staying in Paraty, this is a must area to visit during their stay.
