The Hostelz.com Review
Welcome Inn is small, on the fifth floor of an antique building close to the center of Naples, and served by two different metro stations nearby. The staff are absolutely recommended -- extremely helpful, sympathetic, and patient. They are some of the few people in the whole city who can speak English, so you should ask them about directions and information instead of anyone else in the streets.
The Location
It is located close to the old center of Naples, one block away from the biggest museum in Naples (National Archaeological Museum) and only a few blocks away from the main cathedral (San Gennaro). The traffic is a mess in Naples and there are not too many spots to park a car, so cars are not a good option. Also, the city offers cheap transportation passes, with which you can use bus, tram, metro for one or three days or even a month. So, as the hostel is not far from two metro stations, it's easy and cheap to get around. There are restaurants, an ATM, a bakery and clothes stores at most two blocks away from the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are not many rooms, only three collective ones (six people in each room) and two private ones (two people in each room). There are lockers in the collective rooms. There is only one male bathroom and one female bathroom for the collective rooms, so sometimes you have to wait a while to take a shower. The water is hot, no problems in taking a good shower, but there are no spaces for your clothes or stuff, you have to adapt (like putting the shampoo in the corner of the box and the soap over the shampoo or the clothes over the lid of the toilet). Towels are rented, but linen is included.
Common Spaces
There is a common kitchen with everything you need to cook your own dish if you want, and a breakfast is included, usually with milk, juice, toast, jam, butter, and croissants. There is a common room where you can use a computer with internet for free (or you can use your own notebook, Wi-Fi is also free), or watch cable TV or a DVD.
Some sofas and chairs are provided, as well as a number of guides and books, so you can learn a little more of the city or pass the time with some novel, or even play one of the available games. People usually socialize in this room (of course it will depend on the type of people in the room that day). Smoking is forbidden inside the hostel, and going down with the elevator five floors to smoke sounds tiring.
Summary
Naples is a big and chaotic city, but this hostel is better than the average scene of the city, so it's recommended, mainly because of the staff and the location.
