Hostelz.com's Review
Alegria's Hostel is a really nice hostel in a really good location with everything you could need and it also includes a nice continental breakfast, followed by coffee and tea twenty-four/seven. The staff are really helpful, although travelers who speak only English may find it difficult (only one person speaks English); still they try to help however they can! They also offer laundry for a reasonable price.

The Location

The location is really good -- it's in the historic centre of La Candelaria -- near the main attractions, but still quiet and safe to walk around at night. It is fairly close to a TransMilenio bus station (their main bus transportation) -- about fifteen-minute walk. The streets in Bogota are kind of tricky, so don't hesitate to ask for directions since one street might have three different names.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are pretty spacious and beds are really comfortable; there are plenty of different options, such as six- and eight-person dorms or private with two twin beds or private with a double bed. The rooms have no lockers, but there are little lockers in a common area. Private rooms can be locked if you have an extra lock for the door. Bathrooms are really spacious, with shower and toilet in the same room. There's plenty of space to hang your belongings and the showers are really warm and with great pressure, especially for Colombia.

Common Spaces

The common areas are really nice -- you can watch a movie or just read a book in a quiet area. There is also a garden, but it is not really useful at the moment since the dogs have taken over and destroyed it! The kitchen is really big and clean all the time. There are lots of things for you to help cook a decent meal and there's coffee and tea available all day long.

Summary

Overall, we love the hostel! The staff are friendly and smiling all the time. There are also two dogs -- so be aware if you don't like dogs, but they are really friendly and don't bother at all. Security is really good -- you have to pass two doors to get in and as you ring the bell they check the camera to see who's at the door. This is a really nice place to stay for a couple of days or for a long stay, too.
